I've never had much luck planting seeds directly into soil...
but whenever I use paper towels, I try to catch them for planting
when the tap-root is out only about 1/4".
also there are different kinds & textures of paper towels...
some are less likely to stick to the root than others.

Warm water until they crack open then into soil (or...). Actually any of these methods will work fine if you pay attention and have enough seeds to cover any likely scenario.

Cannabis seeds are so fucking easy to produce in quantity they should be sold by the ounce instead in stupid little 10 packs.

main reason i dont like soaking in water is leaching of nutes

this small seed comes with a built in nute reserve for the start, while in the glass of water nutes dilluate more than with other methods

^interesting... how long do you think that takes?
would you say there is any safe amount of soaking?
I've found that pre-soaking only takes about 6 hours or so,
just until the floaters can be sunk,
but overdoing it much beyond that can drown them.
if the tap-root peeks out underwater, it turns gray & dies.
also btw, it's important that your pre-wetted medium
matches the temp of your wet paper towels.
going from warmth to room temp during the winter,
could be like a 20° drop, which can shock them badly.

ive often thought we the consumer would be very suprised to see just how small the operations have been in that past that were growing for seeds

hard to say munchy, as ive posted the fastes cracking of seeds i witnessed was only 4 hours within paper towels

its also a question of water itself, soft water with a low surface tension should take less time than water with a high surface tension .. hmmm ... many soak without problems for 12 to 24 hours, some even longer .. as you wrote till the seed drops below, which should be physically a good indicator of swimming vs non swimming masses, now on a real microscopic level we should assume that some flow-through should happen before the critical mass for drownung accured, but when .. thats the question

now on the other side, we all germed a seed in rockwool, and its properties guarantee an air amount of 40 percent even when totally saturated, so that means that less water, than the glass method, works as well ..

so im inclined to say that water is a kickstarter for cracking, more than lets compare it to a chemical reaction, where you need minimum amount to start a reaction

my best guess following my own logic here, would tell me that even 1 hour should be enough, before the seed even drowned with soft surfaced water

too bad we cant clone seeds to do side by sides lol

Just dabbing them in situ in the container or site they will be grown is probably best if you don't mind pinching off any extras that sprout up and have enough seed.

while reading this another thing came into my mind ... black border paki lo quality btw .... ive read its often also about gentetical heritage, especially with landraces - sat vs ind - like "deserts" genetics need just a drop as where "jungle" genetics need more, as well time as water/humidity to crack

i coudnt confirm that
