you get used to not eating or drinking, the first week is really hard especially if you work with non Muslims who eat and drink in front of you, so i tend to stay away from them at lunchtimes coz i know ill get hungry, the worst thing is in the morning were you get up and want a cup of tea but you cannot.. cant even use toothpaste i have to use the miswak to clean my teeth, i work in a office so its not hard labor, the poor bastards who work on construction sites in 3rd world countries were its really hot, they have it really worse.. but its a great feeling after the month is over its like you have purged your body of all the crap you been eating for the past year, so you actually feel good about yourself and its a sense of achievement.

I lost my ipod thingy which Ramada. I hope this ain't Utah cause last time I was there I had no toilet paper and had to use my koran. Hey sorry .. SOOOO SOWRY. really, I was desperate. What would you have done? Out in the middle of the dry Utah mountain desert. Rocks and sand. Rocks and sand and you didn't bring any nappies or nothing. Just your coffee can of Red Bud.

Try crossing the Arizona border with that in your back seat.
Border Agent: "You got any plants or live materials in your vehicle punk?
MeStoned: "Uh no." smileing silently as if he is in on it.
Border Agent: takes a closer unsmiling look. He doesn't get the joke. He waves his right hand and steps backwards, "Get out and open the trunk."
So I step out open the trunk and its empty since I had left home with nothing but a credit card and 1 blanket a can of peanuts and an coffee can of the best weed I'd ever had up to that time.

Road trip this.

So he looks to his left down a long line of cars backed up

I look backward down a long line of cars backed up at sunset Arizona time.

He looks at me and squints and quizzes, "You sure you have no plant materials produce or evil bugs and larvae we don't want in our state so stay out?"

ME: throws arms wide open and leans back

Inn in what city?

Anyway I guess what I'm saying is. send me all your korans here.

Self deceit is an evil thing
Those who manipulate our human weaknesses to use it against us is eviler.

I need all the free toilet paper I can get.

haha muslims dont eat swine... but seriously we pace ourselves, we dont pig out coz after the fast is open at 9.12pm we can eat then till 2.55AM and after that we fast till 9.14 pm ( 2 minutes get added everyday). so i avoid oily food, but after 18 hours of fasting everyday, the only thing i can stomach is something sweet, thats why most Muslims around the world open there fasts by eating dates first...

i found this online too

Question:
Assalaamu alaikum I live in western coutry where the summer days are longer and even sometimes the sun shines for 24h a day . We have been fasting ramadan months the summer according to the time of Makka and then fast again the same month the winter time to make sure we won't miss any . I would like to know if that is ok also like fasting the mondays and thursdays and the days of full moon it is very important to my family and i to keep tight to islam in all ways possible. All this is according to our time but when the summer comes we can't fast 23 to 24h so we do it Makka time . Also it is important to fast Ramadan same time with all muslims when it is in summer inshaallah. Hope you to help us in this matter jazakumullah khair.

Fatwa ( islamic declaration)

If the sun shines for 24 hours a day in your country and never sets, then you should fast and break the fast according to the timing of the nearest country to you where the sun rises and sets; this applies to obligatory and supererogatory fasting.

However, if the fasting person finds hardship in fasting to an extent that he is unable to continue the fasting due to the extreme length of the day, then it is permissible for him to break the fast according to the necessity only [and not eat his fill] and then make up for that day whenever he is able to do so. As regards supererogatory fasting, one is not obliged to make up for the day he broke the fast.

found this aswell on yahoo answers :)

The answer is simpler than what you may think. Polar regions like Norway, Finland, and Alaska have areas where the sun stays below horizon for several months in winter, and stays above horizon for several months in summer. However, there comes a time in every day when the sun is at its highset point (Noon) and at lowest point (Midnight). At temperate latitudes, the highest point is visible but lowest point is below horizon. But at higher latitudes (Polar region, like Norway, Finland, and Alaska) the highest and lowest point occur below horizon in winter (meaning several months long night), and above horizon in summer when the sun never sets for several months (meaning several months long day). But we can calculate those two points and determine Prayer times around those two known times every day. Having determined the prayer times, the fasting time is already set.

no earl, not yet

we are on our 19th day of the 30, so in total we have to fast for 30 days on the trot.... after the 30 days are over we celebrate the end of fast we call it " EID" (Eid-ul-Fitr )

Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "breaking the fast". The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire ramadhan month.

Who is exempt from fasting?

The following Muslims are exempt from fasting during Ramadan:

1. The clinically insane

2. Children who have not reached puberty

3. The elderly and chronically ill for whom fasting is unreasonably strenuous. Instead, they are required to feed at least one poor person every day in for which he/she missed fasting.

4. Pregnant and nursing women may postpone fasting to a later date. However, it is best to check with your doctor for advise.

5. Those who are ill or those who are travelling incredibly long distances. However, these days need to be made up later. In the Qur’an (Surah Al-Baqara), there’s the verse:

“But if anyone is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period should be made up by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put you to difficulties.”

6. Females during menstruation. However, again, days missed should be made up.

Validity of fasting:

Your fast is considered valid, if you have done the following:

1. Abstained from food, drink and sexual activity from dawn to sunset.

2. The intention to fast (niyyah) is made every day before dawn. Niyyah may be made during night before going to sleep or it can also be made at the time of suhour before dawn.

3. It is desirable to break the fast as soon as possible after sunset.

Factors that invalidate a fast:

There are numerous factors that can invalidate a fast. These are:

1. Eating or drinking intentionally.

2. Deliberately causing oneself to throw up.

3. The beginning of menstruation.

4. Ejaculation for reasons other than sexual intercourse.

5. Sexual intercourse between married couples.

6. Intending to break the fast before sunset even if one changes his mind, since intention is one of the pre-requisites of the validity of fasting.

Factors that do not invalidate a fast

According to numerous Islamic scholars, there are several factors that do not invalidate a fast. They are:

1. If anyone forgets that he is fasting and eats or drinks, he should complete his fast, for it is only Allah who has fed him and given him drink.

2. Unintentional vomiting.

3. Swallowing things that are not possible to avoid, such as one's saliva, street dust, smoke…etc.

4. Brushing the teeth.

5. Injections or intra-venous which are for medical and not nutritional use.

seriously dill,
conventions and traditions be damned

how do you deal with the fact that a proceedure created before electricity to inact a certain measure of control over the masses is used today to EXTRACT a much greater measure of control over the faithful?

this practice is horseshit!

its produces FAR more physical harm on the participants given their real world responsibilities in comparison to the impact its creations was designed to inflict

i got a similar argument wrapped up against the idiot conservative christians in my family

goes generally like this

if there was in fact a god you were correct in worshipping, dont you think he would send someone back to chance this practice so that his worship didnt demand you shooting yourself in the foot as a way of being less able to promote his praise?

i can only say at the end its all about the "faith" either you have it or you dont... i mean there are plenty of Muslims who DONT fast even though its obligatory for all muslims apart from the exempt ones. after muslims have completed the whole fasting period , we feel really good about ourselves, generally we lose weight and because we are not eating during the day, no fast food etc.. the skin becomes more healthy and glowing for a while...

personally when i complete the whole fast it gives me a sense of achievement that i stuck to something for a month so that tells me if i really put my mind to something i can really do it, it makes you become more confident, ya know as in what can the world throw at me out after i fasted for 19 hours a day for a month, nothing can stop me from anything !!! :)

Not to lessen yer personal journey here dill, it’s total cool …
but it's kinda like when I tell people who ask why I go backpacking? .. cause it fells soooo good taking off the boots at days end.

Sounds like it breaks the boring work sleep eat work routine I seem to remember ya mentioning… eh?

I'm trying to lose a little weight so I've been hungry a lot lately by choice. The hunger seems to come and go for me so that even if I don't eat the hunger will actually go away--at least temporarily--just by waiting.

i spend alot of time seriously poor
so i have to be frugal

i note that when i walk through the grocery
i see things my brain can taste and the satisfactions of eating them
cascades through my system as i walk past
in the unfortunate posistion

of not being able to even afford them

these things i know the taste of...

i hear this is what drug addicts feel in relate to their choice

guesss for me food is the closest i will ever get to that space wher you can see step one

i might keep it up post fasting aswell a i have not craved for weed or cigs, feel a lot better..

Not to bother you during the fast but when you get around to it . Okay if I ask this stupid american question about your culture? I know you live in the UK but

Do the women wear colorful or decorative scarfs to be attractive if not attractive, distinct, memorable? Seems I seen quite a few colorful ones in iran when US relations were better.

I ask cuz I'm doing it now as a male. But it seemed something the women here would embrace. As Dr brix already owns it. Seems to me Muslims and Islamic culture should be way ahead on the game on that.

^youre not bothering me brother !!!! :)

are you talking about the hijab, the scarf the covers the head and leaves the face exposed? yeah its just decorative there so many diff styles that women wear in UK albeit its only 1% of Muslim women that actually wear them.. the jilbab is the full covering usually in black as the whole point is NOT to be noticed, but i have seen embroidery on them and diff styles i guess to make them stand out between there friends etc....

there's a " burkha" which covers the whole body and the only thing visible are the eyes.

i have seen some pics of the time when it was the Spanish influenza epidemic and lots of women were wearing the Islamic style face-covering..... i guess its not a big deal for the spanish women as 700 years rule of the moors in spain they have the hijab, jilbab, burkha in there past culture.

one of my neighbors went to south end on sea ( to the coast) it was a really hot day today and he was telling me the beach was jam-packed with people and there was o social distancing, it looks like corona might make a comeback deadlier than before, seems like people are just fed up with staying at home in the summer, my local park was full of kids playing cricket and football today.

i am going to back to work tomorrow, i have to get on the London fucking tube i have my N3 respirator ready, not sure how i feel about going back to work i was getting 80% of my salary so I wasn't too bothered about it, seems a bit dangerous top go back to work as corona is still around and people are still dying on a daily basis, but i have been called back to work on Tuesday.......

Maybe you could get rescheduled a few hours. The London tube is scary crowded only during the weekday commute times. Just a couple of hours one way or the other, it's not nearly as bad. I've been on when the distance between my and the people around me were mere millimeters.

so my first day back at work, the tube was crammed with people coughing and sneezing and only a handful of people wearing face masks absolutely no social distancing, nobody gave a fuck and people were huddled shoulder to shoulder like sardines, the fucking worst day I've had since the lockdown, gonna be like this every day until the mayor of London makes it mandatory for anyone travelling on the tube to be wearing masks, but the mayor is a real fucking procrastinator he doesn't know what to do.. my colleagues at work were all depressed nobody wanted to be back at work including myself.

I noticed lots of NON- Muslims fasting these days. lots of videos on YT of non-Muslims talking about how they feel after they have fasted for a week and how it changed their whole thinking about eating 3 times a day..

there was a time when people thought Muslims were crazy for fasting for 30 days but now its different and many people want to try it,

think about the sense of achievement if you can control your food and liquid intake for hours and hours every day for 30 days...

regarding the " Zamzam water" when pilgrims come back from the hajj from all over the world they bring back the Zamzam water for their families in bottles as the water is good and it helps heal. They mix the Zamzam water with regular water and drink it because there is only a certain amount of bottles of water they can bring back from the well so they mix it with regular water and give it to friends and families and people who are sick.
years ago I was reading up about how water has memory and the experiments that Dr. Masaru Emoto's Water Experiment
In his studies, Emoto found that water exposed to positive words and intentions formed beautiful, symmetrical crystalline structures when the water was frozen, while water exposed to negative words and intentions formed disorganized, asymmetrical structures. Most adult Muslims fast from dawn to sunset as one of the five Pillars of Islam, but last year, the UAE's first long-duration astronaut told reporters he would need to put ISS operations first. Sultan Al Neyadi's half-year flight included Ramadan, which began last year on March 23.

"We're actually allowed to eat sufficient food and to prevent any escalation of lack of food or nutrition or hydration," Al Neyadi said of Muslim travelers during a pre-flight press conference on Jan. 25, 2023. He emphasized that his orbital activities must be adjusted so that he does not "jeopardize the mission or maybe put the crewmember in a risk."

The first-ever Muslim astronaut to go to space, Prince Sultan bin Salman Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia, coincidentally arrived towards the end of the holy month on June 17, 1985, during the week-long STS-51G space shuttle mission. He fasted pre-launch and broke his fast in space, with his American crew members staying alongside him in support until he was allowed to eat.

These days, the UAE participates in NASA missions both in ISS excursions, and as a member of the U.S.-led Artemis Accords. Some partners in the 35-nation pact directly supply hardware for Artemis missions, like the UAE, and all signatories commit to peaceful exploration norms led by NASA.
