I received beans from NirvanaShop approximately 10 days after I bought them. Had a problem with getting them to germinate. So I emailed them late last night, August 30, 2010. This morning at 7:30 am pacific time I received this.

What you saying, baby? That a seed company might take advantage of you.

True, true...Too true. You will get your response as it happens.

I trust these guys.

Hope you are wrong!

Asking me to explain my mistake, hunh. :bigcry:

I had been using a tried and true method...paper towel, old 2 piece pie plastic dome,
black bottom/clear top, on top of my fluorescent lights for heat and covered for dark.

I was out of paper towels-so I used a small, white cloth towel...thinner than a cloth napkin.

This is all that I did differently. The seeds entered slightly lighter than I expected [not dark brown and striped, but not white] 4 days later the pointy end cracked and stopped growing. 4 days later they were black.

Since then I bought some paper towels and germinated 9 out of 10 bag seeds.
Maybe some bacteria from the cotton cloth got in there.?!

If you have a theory, I'd like to know for sure. This had worked in the past, but not this time.

I am new at this...third crop. This should be my first crop without the "Borg".

I just scrubbed, painted, and sprayed my little grow room at my cousins. New pots, soil, and Avid; With an Aza-Max
back-up in 1 month.
So...if everything goes according to plan , those bad boys will be here by Tuesday at the latest.

Peace
Boo
I just came from the mailbox :bannana: :fly: :bannana: and lo and behold... there were my beans from Nirvana.

Occasionally, things are right and fair. Now I will take much better care.

My guess would be that the cloth didn't allow as much evaporation (and therefore cooling) and the temperature got a bit too high.
I never germinate at over 24C, and usually just in coco or rockwool at room temp (usually 20C). I suspect the top of your light is probably quite hot.... have you measured the temperature?
I always think that germinating on towels and the added risk of damaging the seeds when you plant them just isn't worth it.

I get excellent results just germinating them in their final growing medium. It means the occasional waste of a pot of coco or a cube, but they're cheap enough.
