nothing like a good wrench...
and i discovered something about an outdated model just the other day...
was involved replacing an old set of shower valves... so of course a new drop to the tub diverter...
the iron pipe nipple behind the diverter was badly corroded, anyway...
there were several workers doing plumbing that day,
so assuming this one nipples extraction would be light work
i just grabbed the old pipe wrench id seen in the shop,
rather than go get a modern tool from one of the other guys projects...
the nipple put up a good struggle,
and the wrench crushed it a good deal were it grabbed...
i suddenly had great appreciate for this old style wrench because
when the nipple finally turned, the wrench in the setting that had pinched it down,
was still able to grab onto its widest flair, where you had to in order to proceeding in removing it...
my modern design wrench would have need back and forth adjustment...
ive watched plumbers use two wrenches just to avoid the hassle...
i took a pic,
will post it later...

nothing like a good wrench...
well my pic didnt turn out so well,
i though the collapse of that nipple was going to be visible...
and i should have had the wrenches head closest to the camera...
never the less... there is the wrench and the nipple
the guy im working for, tells me this was one of his grandfathers tools...

nothing like a good wrench...
there is more slop in the action,
letting the jaw move to a greater degree of angle away from the fixed teeth...
the other difference is the handle... much smaller cross section on the old one...
it digs into your hands more than a newer one...
were it my only wrench, id wrap that with alot of tape...
