Two guys who were growing marijuana in Rochester, New York tragically died from histoplasmosis, a lung infection caused by inhaling spores from the Histoplasma capsulatum fungus usually found in bat feces.
The men, ages 59 and 64, used bat guano, a.k.a. bat poop, as a fertilizer for their cannabis plants. Bat guano is rich in the nutrients that make plants grow like crazy, acting as a superfood for plant life.

I can vouch for the bat shit is bad shit scenario. I was doing maintenance on a townhouse complex about 8 years back. They sent me to one unit to do routine shit between tenants, paint, plumbing, etc.. I heard what sounded like rodents in the 2nd floor walls. I went into the attic and found about 100 bats had made a nesting ground. The smell was overwhelming to say the least. I told the mgr, and they asked me to evacuate the bats and clean. I worked on it for about 3 days, then found when reading about evacuation that the guano could cause lung issues. I quit the next day, and told the mgr, that they were asking too much to have me jeopardize my health doing jobs like that. I don't think I suffered any permanent damage, but definitely knew what I was breathing up there was some potent shit.
