well has got colder. melons are dying back. picked the last bigger one.
still got green beans to pick they are doing ok. yacons are pretty small.
but as long as they get big enough for good planting tubers for next year.
i was switching out 1/2 wood wine barrels that had worn out. with plastic
55 gal drums. of rotted cow shit. well 1 problem was the dirt was clay like.
when garden is over i am going to dig them out a foot or so and add perlite
to loosen the top of the soil. then with switching out to drums i was a month
and a half late planting this year. next year will be much better. *i hope*
my parsley died in a barrel but the chives on other side are booming.
still got beets and carrots going. then 1 more trash can with potato in it.
has not died back yet.

I started some potatoes that grew eyes a few weeks ago, in a 10 g pot and some spent medium, with a hand full of nutrients I cut a tall grass from another pot, for some cover, for the spud sprouts, and a wire ring around the perimeter of the pot.
The greens are growing out very nice so far, but I think an early winter is coming for us this year.
We always have hummingbirds until October, saw the last one 2 weeks ago now, so for our area, they left way early.
Our Plumeria/Frangipani needs drug indoors way early also, but damn she her flowers are fragrant with a strong scent this year.
My herb pots really sucked this year also, I think the medium was to enriched for herbs. I'll let winter wash the medium out, and next year it should be perfect for herbs.

Hey dill786, for me, when I bring it indoors for the winter, it is just a stalk, in a pot. No food, no water, just a place out of the freeze temperatures.
The scent of the flowers are very strong, however, mine does not have a lot so I should figure that out. She clones very easy, long time is needed, but easy to do.

some carrots are looking good. then a bunch of beets

have veg's done i need to add perlite to soil. being rotted cow
shit is clay like. will fix that right up i figure. got 2 long window
pot's i filled with soil last night in greenhouse. tonight i planted
1/2 of each one with leaf lettuce seed. when it comes up a bit
will plant other 1/2 of them. need to walk orchard lot's of fruit

you must have a gallon of sunflower seeds!

what do you do with them?

i usually leave some on the garden wall for the birds to take and save some for next season and maybe eat some after I bake them in the oven with some olive oil and spices, but ill have to spit the husk out so I might not bother haha!!

next season the plan is to grow some pumpkins, the seeds are packed with protein and are delicious when coated with spices and the husk isn't as fibrous as the sunflower seeds

my plan is to get some mammoth sunflower seeds and grow them big as I can, the ones I grew this time around were the "Mexican giants" sunflower seeds and the tallest was around 13 foot high, the mammoth ones get bigger and the heads can be around 3 feet across so it will be a challenge and something too look forward to next season

I also have an indoor plant called " bird of paradise! which I got from £10 from eBay as a small plant I left it out all summer and it grew well, now its indoor coz its cold now but I might put that under a light with my indoor money plant it will give me something to do till next spring.

well today pulled the beets, the standing water was gone.
right off the bat was a large wad of earthworms on top of soil.
put few hand fulls in wheel borrow then i started digging.
i use a large metal grain scoop so scooped into it. then about
6" down i hit fresh composting shit. quite warm cooking in there.
was mostly that way all the way down. spread the soil in the
wheel borrow to dry a few days. wish i had a 2nd wheel borrow
to mix the perlite in with this dirt/shit. i will think of something.
then since barrel is partly dug out. i will take my large iron digging bar
and poke hole to bottom in middle and fill with perlite. poor mans
french drain lol. i get it dealt with i got 1 more barrel i can do up
also. then another when beans are done. might need another bag
of perlite i dono yet.

well been a work out. today soil was dry enough. i had been
raking it with 4 prog rake. i had dug down 3/4 the way in barrel.
so i used a garden tool not sure of name. has 6 or so bars and a handle.
you poke down and twist it breaks up the soil. so i used that on bottom
of barrel adding perlite. then i mixed perlite with what i had dug out.
taking a break often bad ticker lol. so i got it full and topped off. rested
a while then dug out barrel #2 3/4 way and twisted perlite in bottom.
soil in a tub and wheel borrow needs to dry a day or 2 not as much fresh
shit in this one. was the melon barrel. if soil is dry enough tomorrow will get
2nd barrel filled. then dig out 1/2 side of chive barrel and add some perlite
to it. green beans are still going. so that barrel is on hold till there done.
then i have 1 last one. it has carrots in it to over winter. will dig and
fix that one with perlite next spring. i will say i have seen more worms
i mean lbs of them. is a great sign in the barrels. next year will be great.

then dug out the 1/2 with out chives and fluffed
it with perlite. then have these large black bags.
they fit over barrel. so the done barrels are covered
with a brick on top. will kill any weeds and not be
waterlogged next spring. last barrel to do i still have
beans growing. will pick soon and debate if there done.
i will try to remember to take some photo's of what i am
doing with barrels. on the next one. leaf lettuce in the

my bird of paradise indoor plant, i got this from eBay for £10 a little cutting and I left it outdoors all summer and because this year was exceptionally warm it grew really well, so the plan is to put this and my money plant cuttings under a light in the box room, hopefully with the light I will get it real big and will probably have to repot it into a bigger container, still need some soil and some perlite not ordered that yet, I may drive to the shop/store to get them along with some bigger pots..

well went to another town for perlite. filled barrel
most the way. but needed more so 1/2 filled wheel borrow.
is really wet still so been raking off and on all day to dry. should be
ok tomorrow to mix and fill. then when done need to do 2 more
wheel borrows mixed. then into a trash can, that is to add to my
raised flower bed. got carrots and beets going in it now. but want
dirt ready after i pull carrots to add to it. speaking of carrots i was
not to late noticed some nice ones watering tonight.
lettuce is not growing very fast yet but is good to go.

ordered a 42 lb bag of azolite trace elements for garden.
last night open box and bag looks like will fit into a 5 gal
bucket. top of bag says tear here for pour spout so i did.
well this bag is micronized. not sand and powder like other i have.
is like flour. well was not pouring so tore bag more. is dust of it
everywhere as pouring. get bucket almost full. so i grab bucket and
lift it a few inches and drop it to settle. well it came out of bucket
like nuke cloud. got nose/lung full. go to wash some from my
eyes. look in mirror total pink face from powder. wash up go
back to porch every things dusted. i get rest into bucket is 100%
full. marked lid and came in house. am now very stoned, wash up again.
i inhaled a lot prob got miners lung now and nose feels like a desert.
so today i am still a bit high with a headache. i hope i have not
poisoned myself. any way i have a lifetimes worth of azolite now.
will add a heavy cup to each barrel next spring. will do flower bed
after i pull some carrots. i think i got my minerals for the week.
i might have found a new drug lol

use a gen to run a pump in a old well for garden.
the well to the 2 houses is shallow so i don't use it.
some water is in well, less as summer rolls on.
i use a stop watch. in spring 15 min or so. late summer
is 7 min if lucky every other day. get more not pumping
every day. i fill water barrels and hand water mostly.
i will use hose on poppy and artichoke patches.
rains are here but a nice day today. so cleaned a path
to porch and moved the gen to porch. then i opened
ends of my 2 hoses so they will drain back to well.
that way the hoses don't freeze up to top of well.
had a lot of rain. the chive barrel chives are dieing.
so dug them up and put into a pot in the greenhouse
to dry up a bit. we get right weather this winter i will
dig it out to add perlite. also the 1 that has carrots in it
this spring. i got a lot of carrots out there lol 2 patches
and a barrel. i do have 1 worry the black bags i put onto
barrels. are full of water on top. i hope that with the seal
that the worms do not run out of air in there. guess i will

was many worms on the tops. also down side of barrel.
glad i thought about it. all the worms would be dead by
spring. i asked my bro to get me a sheet of plywood.
2'x2' pieces will work. i hope he gets to it soon. lots of
rain. so i want them covered. i did not take a photo

and not raining so i did. not looking good they hardly
grew under ground. also only a few top planting tubers.
so sat them in a box is a cool room. will see in spring
if the few planting tubers make it. then a barrel i did not
dig out with carrots in it. is 2-3" of standing water hydro
carrots anyone ? lol my other carrots are fine in raised bed.

been thinking as always is a curse.

anyway the barrels getting waterlogged.
i drilled 1/2" holes on bottom of them.
there lies my problem i think. barrels are on cement.
so as they get heavy seals bottom. also the soil is
clay like so would self seal. made me think of a planter
pot. has 4 drain holes on bottom on sides. inch or so for
a 3 gallon pot. i now have a plan. i dug up a 2 1/4" hole saw.
i will drill 4 holes around bottom of each barrel. that should
do the trick. when weather lets me. then for the tops i asked
my bro to cut me some plywood squares to put on top for
winter time. he has not got to it yet. but i had a idea i will
drill a 1 1/4" hole in center of each piece. then i will go get
some 1" pvc pipe and 5 caps. will cut the pvc into 2' pieces
put a cap on 1 end. then set plywood on barrel poke the pvc
down middle. so i do not have to stack bricks on them for wind.
had 2 frost's so will harvest a bunch of carrots soon. the leaf
lettuce in greenhouse does not look happy. will see how that goes.

was nice out today. grabbed hole saw and started
drilling 2 1/4" holes in barrels. 4th hole the pilot bit
bent. took it out put in vice then tried hammer on anvil.
could not get it flat again. so sized the bit 1/4" took a
drill bit and put it in hole saw. got 19 of my 20 holes.
could not get 1 hole barrel is next to fence. is 1 i need
to dig out in spring. so will get to it when i can move
barrel. tools are crap it seems. dewalt hole saw 1st
bent pilot bit then is metal cutting one. took like a
full minute per hole. seemed to not cut but melt it's
way thru. sorry was to lazy for photo's.

Having kind of the same problem, my daffodils have started to sprout a little. But their bulbs and can be buried under snow and just resume in spring thaw. Usually by this time of year a snowstorm ot two, but just rain so far.

warmed up a little. yesterday went to pull some carrots.
ground was froze solid. well was able to today. i needed
to get that spot ready for garlic. pulled about 10 lbs of
carrots. still plenty more. then i got that spot all ready
to plant. when i was across the pond i met and talked to
a elderly german lady. she said she had been in my state
for 2 years long ago. said we had the same weather there
and here. then she told me to plant garlic near or on xmas.
then on july 1st bend tops over, wait a week and harvest.
well every time i have done it i get a good garlic crop.
so i have there spot ready and a few cloves to break up.

I’m kinda restricted on what I can do these days, which has wrecked my gardening plans. I’m doing a container grow of dill, fennel, 8 kinds of lettuce, purple bak choi, and some flowers. I’m also planning to grow rosemary, lavender, chamomile and valerian for my own use.

I still have a bunch of lilacs that I need to get in the ground, they’ve been sitting out there in containers forever. Hopefully my body will ease up enough this week to let it happen. We’re in a pretty bad drought, so I don’t have high hopes for anything surviving.

nice grafting pliers. i have a pair that has 4 different

is wood splitter pry bar ect. all in 1. wax is ok, the
asphalt sealer sucks. i have had the best luck with
doc farwell's grafting seal. you be taking scions soon.
then wet paper towel the ends and into fridge.
then when trees are growing later is when you graft.
best of luck. is so cool when it works.

Most videos I watch they use clay, I’ll look into the sealer you recommend.

I’ve already done a few this year…..as I understand it you want to graft fruit trees right before the sap starts flowing and before it turns too hot.

I’ve pretty much mastered grafting cactus but this might take a few years to get the hang of, eventually I want to have a tree with 20+ kinds of fruits, wish I would have started at a younger age.

well my yacons did not do well last year hardly grew.
i looked last night to see if any planting tubers.
looked like 2 maybe 3 but rather dried out.
is early but i filled 3 one gal pots. then tore into them.
was 2 limp ones *should be firm and 3 really limp tiny ones.
planted the 2 into a pot each and the 3 tiny into 3rd pot.
i sure hope they grow. been growing them over 25 years now.

fungus gnats were eating the roots of my houseplants and the leaves were small and stunted..

i was thinking about a solution today and then I suddenly remembered I had a bag of diametecus earth from few years ago when I had fungus gnat issues in my grow room, so I mixed some with the soil in my indoor plants just now and laid some down on the tray were the plants sit on, hope it works...

Hey dill786, I've been not watering from the top down, for months now, and it has beat back my gnat population better than Mosquito Bits did for me.
Even my seedlings. Once out of 4-5inch nursery pots, I just fill saucers. Since the roots are driven downward, to get fluid, I really do not need to top down water anymore.
I went and found cheapo dish pans that hold my 3 g pots, can hold a gallon with space left over.
Now have a full cycle with zero top down feedings, with a huge reduction in gnats.
I sure this will not work for everything, my cannabis loves it.

If you could count all the natural numbers you end up with a infinity plus one type contradiction.
Therefore set of all natural numbers is uncountable.

was nice out again today. lets see 1st i added rabbit shit
to 3 barrels. then i topped them off with soil. then i
put lime and azomite onto the 3 and the 3 i had dug out
other day. mixed that in. there all ready for spring.
then i dug out the last 3 1/2 wood wine barrels into a
65 gal trash can. was full and heavy as fuck. then i
cleaned up where they were. then moved my 3 trash
cans for potato's there. had to stop a lot heart don't
like labor anymore. so the potato cans are ready for
planting soon. i got 1 more 55 gal to dig out for spring.
was going to do that. but sister is doing my shopping
today. i pack it into wheel borrow to the house. so i
could not dig it out today. after that barrel i have 1
more to dig out. but i can wait for warmer weather.

lucked out nice weather today again.
dug out 55 gal drum 3/4 the way down. filled my wheel borrow
and a tub. mixed perlite as i was shoveling raking it into them.
then it was movable so moved and drilled my 1 more drain hole.
i moved it and then dug and used a kind of twist tool to mix the
perlite to the bottom. spot was not level where it was. went to bro's
and said i need a foundation. he said got wood for it. i said no but
let me think. then said that plastic deck fake wood scraps of yours
behind the greenhouse. he said good thinking. has been there 10 years.
told him will still need help later. dug out 4 of the plastic boards a little
long but useable. drove 3 pieces of rebar 1 few inches from fence. then
2 on 1 side of where plywood was. moved plywood away then laid scrap
pieces down and put 2 bricks under 1 end to level up. was really close to
level. moved plywood back and poof there is my bro. says what do we
need to do ? i said well i got it if you can step on this plywood so it does
not move. told him shoulder was already fucked so why not a little more.
rolled it into place and he said that's it ? i said yup thanks did not mean to
work you to hard on your day off. then i went in and rested a bit.
then went out to greenhouse and dumped all the used soil into 2 buckets.
dumped them into bottom of barrel and added then mixed a little perlite.
refilled barrel 3/4 the way. then got 2 scoops of shit from under rabbit
cage. mixed some perlite with it also. then topped the barrel off.rested
then added lime and azomite and mixed in. the barrels are ready for spring.
i got 1 last barrel to dig out. no rush when warmer will do it. this has been
heavy mud like cuz so wet.

I run a nursery and it’s driving me crazy that it’s too cold to stock it, normally this time of year I would have all the tables full.

Right now I’m in the process of planting a row of 10 Wichita Blue Junipers on my property,

garlic is doing well little fert burnt. opps will grow out of it.
nothing is up in greenhouse or inside on heat mats yet.

on another note. poppy plot nothing again. hmm so thought
mother nature hates me. so maybe slugs and snails. so i tossed
some more seed then some slug bait around. will see.

seen 2 giant redwood seeds had a root tonight.
there on paper towel. been at this a while no luck.
this bunch of seeds were on wet paper towel in fridge
for the last month. now are on a heating mat. is a
bonzi project. i hope to get 4. i have there little pots
ready. used 2 tonight. then broke but bought some lily
bulbs. i have a 4' around 3' tall cement well casing in
yard. i got iris all the way around it doing well now.
adding lily's to the middle. tall ones should look good.
then since bulbs. should be just a fert water and come
back every year. i will photo the casing when i plant.
no seeds up in greenhouse or inside on heat mats yet.

well today i moved the potted yacon into greenhouse. to get
used to the sun and also the cold. is growing to small and lanky
under the tubes. hope it does ok out there i want to plant it
outside as soon as i can. only 1 this year they did poorly last
year. i only got 1 tuber to come up. i did it early because none
of the few planting tubers looked very good so planted them.
then surprise i see some lettuce up in greenhouse

what do you do with the rapid rooters that failed ?
you boil them in water then use for something else.
i am doing some artichoke seeds. there are 2 seeds
per rooter poked in with a pencil. only 80% germ rate
with fresh seeds is why 2 seeds per. my seed is older.
then set on a wet tray of perlite. will take out to greenhouse
tomorrow. soon as they sprout i will plant them. got some leaf
lettuce up. but nothing else yet on heat mat or greenhouse.
a few of my bulb onions are above ground now. garlic is
doing well. i might do carrots soon. bulbs i ordered have shipped.

go big or go home below the rock you came from .... well i have to wait until legalization law is in power, max 3 plants at home or 5, social clubs ... and what else ...

as a grower and hobby breeder im aware that there will be only 1 selection criteria : effect

my plan is to use the ssh recipe, but without NL and without skunk, i wonder why nobody worked with those lines in combination with haze, instead of skunk im using c99 and instead of nl i will use sannies jack

and bc i consider all 3 strains as stable, breeding work will be faster ... also im still havin contact with cees, the guy who brought santa maria, plank, berlin or whatever they called her into the scene, its a good plant, but imho missing the last 10 to 20 percent in effect compared to more hazy genetics, but, santa is fast and yummy and stable, it might be an alternative to sannies jack ... depends what the crosses do timewise and how they interact

one type is the Mongolian giants i got from Etsy last year if some of you can remember... the other one is the seeds I saved from the sunflowers I grew so pleased they germinated because as I dropped them in the water and I checked after a few hours almost all of them were still floating on top of the water, according to some net sources the ones that float won't germinate, but some of them germinated while they were floating in the cup of water so I don't think that test is true...

i got 2 clones, one White Runtz, lookin good indica ,and a new sativa called CrescendO,gonna pollenate them with a short season Jack Herer that i harvested july 15th,don't know what i pollenated it with but i'm starting a bunch to get an early male
THC Design’s Crescendo is a unique pheno that comes from the winning seed of a batch bred by Ethos Genetics from Denver, Colorado. The strain is a cross between ChemDawg, I-95, and Mandarin Cookies, bred to amplify some of its parents’ best qualities. The strong taste of diesel and earth comes from its ChemDawg heritage, with notes of citrus provided by its Mandarin Cookies genetics.
White Runtz is a potent hybrid marijuana strain made by crossing Gelato and Zkittlez. White Runtz produces long-lasting effects that are relaxing and tingly

watering today with watering can. he needs to get a hose

there still seedlings. but there in for the year. need chives for

well the 3 artichoke seedlings in rapid rooters i planted are toast.
last of seed is on a paper towel. we have a shallow well. there is a
old well by my house. i have put a pump in it that is my garden water.
less and less as summer rolls by. but i fill drums and hand water so i
use less. well bro's plot needs water. but faucet in pump house is fucked up.
that was last night. so my pump i run with my gen. i pulled it out early from
porch. was a chore lol packed porch. got it out checked oil was good. moved
it to it's spot and put the logging chain around it and fence post with padlock.
did not start at 1st was like damn has to be spark or ding ding turn gas on.
2 pulls started. pulled my 2 hoses from grass. took 1 over to his plot. when he
got home fired it up and he watered his plot and i did poppy plot and flowers
and veg in yard. i use a stop watch got 10 1/2 min of water. was plenty both
our spots were heavy watered. his corn should sprout soon now. will do it again
day after tomorrow. nothing has sprouted in green house yet. watered 2 of the
potato's. then lastly i enjoyed the fresh leaf lettuce last night. i beat the heat
this year.

they feed milk and other things to get those giant melons.

did not do to much today. watered a few things. no melon
sprouts yet. but is hot in greenhouse should soon. bro's plot
the onions look better after the deep watering. will do it
again tomorrow. potatos are growing fast in 2 cans. so i hit
up duckduckgo and did some reading. no do not pinch when
growing. but when they bloom you can pinch off the blooms.
says it will make bigger potatos if you do. love learning new
shit. my parsley looks like it is taking to big barrel. still tiny
tho. my pepper is seedling in a tiny cup. i am waiting for 1st.
set of leafs. then going to put into a barrel. then will cover a
while till it gets warmer.

was a rare scorcher today 90's. might be a odd hot summer this year.
sun went behind some clouds this afternoon. so i went out and put more
soil in potato trash cans. the smaller ones grew a lot last few days even
they got some soil. i had looked at monthly forecast not 40's at night now.
most years i wait till 1st of june to plant by green beans. i planted them
today with inoculant and watered in. feed store i got last pack 2 months
ago. it makes the beans able to pull N from the air kind of cool. then
tonight fired up gen to pump watered my stuff in front yard while bro
watered his plot. most his corn is up. need to plant some more stuff in
it soon. he was tired said a day or two np. was fucking hot and he was in
sun all day. noticed i have some beets up. and a few carrots from 2nd
planting. planted more melons this time in pro mix. my home made
soil might be to stiff for seeds. then messed with the outdoor pot plant.

today added more dirt to potato's. watered yacon, beans and
carrots. oddly yacon has not grown hope i got enough perlite
mixed in. garlic is going crazy growing and onions are taking off.
will think about grabbing my digi cam for a walk. i see 1 lilly up
was 9 bulbs hope rest sprout soon. was getting worried. then
tonight before watering got bro to his plot. we planted carrots
beets, radish, leaf lettuce and green beans. so he is all planted
now. then we watered. i just did poppy plot and round flower bed.
then turned my hose off so he got a good drenching for new seeds.
only get so much water from that old well. i get more if i pump
every other day. but i pumped it last night to fill a watering barrel.
we still got 7 min today so not bad.

last night after it cooled off. me and my steel grain scoop
started to dig out last plastic 55 gal drum. got little over
1/2 way. two times of doing it taking a rest between. was
cooler today, fires made it overcast. so dug it out 3/4 the
way. added perlite to bottom 1/4 and mixed in with a long
spade. i was scooping into wheel borrow and mixing perlite.
ended up with a 20 gal tub a 35 gal trash can and wheel borrow
full of mixed soil. then i refilled the drum. about a foot from top
i added a scoop of rabbit shit. then topped it off. then i grabbed
lime and trace elements and added to top. will get rained in 1 day.
thought about it i have over $120 of perlite into these barrels.

will explain about grain scoop. it is steel holds 1 1/2 gal and i have
sharpened the leading edge. is quicker and more easy to use when
messing with taller bins and barrels than a shovel.
just got to water tonight.most everything is taking off now.

none of the sunflowers have came up yet. took a few days
off. lot of digging last week. today i topped off 2 of the
potato trash cans with soil. 3rd one i put some in but is
shorter. i did have some melon's sprout. but i never marked
them. so not sure if i got all watermelon or all cantalope but
got 2 pot's sprouting. when in town no one has any chives this
year. so i planted more. 1 small onion started to bolt hope rest
don't. onions and garlic are doing well. 1st planting of carrots
look like carrot tops now. 2nd planting doing well. the lilys i
got and planted not seeing them yet. hope there ok in flower
bin. yacon has not grown any. i hope i got enough perlite into
it's 1/2 barrel. parsley is small but taking off now. had fresh
lettuce 2 nights and looks like 2 more.

why thank you mmm i am crazy. is why we get along so well. :drunk:

i rinsed out a 55 gal plastic drum. then got 2/3 full was about noon.
tonight fired up gen again and got it filled and 1 of mine almost topped
off. had a pretty good recovery for 6 hours later. water table is high so
will not last long. right now every other day pumps for 7-8 min. that will
be down to 3-4 min by late summer. is why i fill barrels and hand water
mostly. saves water and not watering weeds ect. waiting on bro to call
for us to water his plot. by watering can is only 5x10' so not bad at all.
he has a solar elec fence around it now to keep his cats out. is not working
so well lol. i will try to remember to snap a photo of his plot.

potato's want to be early. pinched blooms off a 2nd one today.
hand watered a few things today. then watered bro's plot with
him. showing him how much less water hand watering uses.
3 watering cans each and is well watered. is 5x10' so is easy.
noticed some calla lilly's popping up in flower bed where cabbage
and some onions are. that bin used to be filled with them. i had
a 2 year die off. from 100's to like a dozen. used to dig each fall.
these few somehow take a freeze without dyeing. so i get to
look at a few that are left. got 2 pot's with melons look the same.
so either watermelon or cantaloupe i dono. still seedlings but will
go into a barrel in june. then my pepper has not seemed to grow
much. it is also going into a 55 gal in june same day . will look funny
in there. lot's of root room. hope it takes off.

i also planted my little pepper. was in dixy size cup not growing.
as i transplanted it did not see any roots in cup. guess if it has a
tap root it has plenty of room in a 55 gal. 2 photo's so you can see it.

potato's are doing good. pinched a few more bloom heads off today.
DSCN3970.JPG
the little pepper looked a bit yellow and sad will see what happens.
the melons looked fine today tho. and 1 more melon is sprouting in
the greenhouse. also think i see 1 chive in a pot from a few weeks
ago planting. i sure hope so planted more with new seed other day.
no sunflowers came up in little row. i planted a bunch of seeds in a
pot so if any of them come up can transplant. is june made me think
next month can bend tops of garlic over. then pick a week later. not
really seeing bulbs hope i did not pant to deep. could just be hiding
the bulbs from me. the onions are starting to bulb up. picked a green
one today for tonights dinner. looks like 2 more pickings on my lettuce
dono how it has not bolted. in old seed box seen some summer leaf lettuce
i am going to plant in a few days. see it that works or not.

of course some big rocks. so shovel and 4 large stones later
i shoveled it pretty level. fired up gen/pump and got it 95% full yay.
need stockpiled water for later summer. then either wind or
my bro's big dog knocked over my 1 artichoke such is life.
i staked it back up will see. in old seed box i had noticed a
summer lettuce mix. planted some today. also when in box
noticed some rainbow beet's so planted a few of them also.
got melon seedlings in 2 other pots now. in a few days will
put into barrel next to others. lastly added some dirt around
the parsley to get dirt level higher. it had settled since i dug out
and refilled that barrel.

Cherries are done for the year, birds know the exact day they are at perfect ripeness….fuckers!
Been eating blueberries for a month now and still haven’t got the main harvest yet.
Have so many green zucchini I’m able to share.
Last night I gut my first marketmore cucumber, used it as a topping on street style tacos.Never have done that before but think I’ll use cucumber on tacos from here on out.
Been eating a few raspberries here and there.
Ate my first ever apricot from my tree today, only have about 10 fruits, they were delicious and I loved that they were freestone. Not a fan of the fuzz on peaches and apricots but it wasn’t bad at all.

Soon I will be trying my first ever armenian cucumber, not a real cucumber
Also have two kinds of eggplants, never grown those before.
Got egg corn and eight ball squash that’s looking good,
I have some cantaloupe and watermelon that still has a long time to go.
Tomatoes are a few weeks out, only two plants but lots of fruits….have four more plants at work.
Still have apples, pears, figs, peaches, plums and nectarines on the trees, plums will be the first ones ready out of all of those.

The scion of the fruit trees are fully mature, but the trees are still small so not too many flowers to be pollinated.

Keeping and storing fruit isn’t a problem yet, I can eat what I grow at this point. I purposely planted trees that will stagger harvest at different times.

90% of my trees are grafted on semi dwarf rootstock, so they will max out at around 15’ if I don’t prune them.

I also have a pineapple guava that I have to hand pollinate but don’t see any fruits yet and I have a persimmons that will be the last thing ready, it’s still real small and only has a few fruits right now.

Hoping to pick up some Tanglewood tomorrow. Always broke or i would have already. No doubt the chilis in the ground are stunted a bit. Still dark & beautiful green though chewed to shit.
Everything on the deck is good so far. Am still on the look out for ants with aphids & also mites have been past issues around here.

^^Yeah, it could be critter shit. We have lots of salamanders, it wouldn't be a stretch if it was.
I was thinking earlier that it could even just be bird shit or something. I broke the leaf off the plant and dropped it in an empty mushroom jar. If it doesn't change by morning it's not a threat and that's all I care about. :volcano:

Someone who grows all kinds of chilis says it's caterpillar shit, so I'm inclined to go with the concensus...the 2 on the deck have been spared, but the 3 in the ground, although full of holes, look like they're going to give me fruit, but at much reduced yield

pulled a few onions before they bolt. pulled 2 days ago.
should set in sun 3 days but says rain maybe. so on porch
a few days then cut off the tops. then my farm dirt came
with critters. pulled a few carrots dark bumps and spots.
guess is a root knot nematode. no real chem cures on the
net. seems to be just the 1st planted ones, pulled a few
from the 2nd planted ones and looked ok. damn you mother
nature again lol. i hope the yacon is ok. the 2 1/2 barrels
the carrots are in would have been yacons had i got more
than 1 tuber to sprout this year. next year carrots will be in
a full size barrel i am not using this year. had 2 really nice
cabbage's but mother cracked both of them.

some wild flowers only pop out after several years i think
used to love all they flowers we'd get in the desert those years i spent all my free time in joshua tree national park.
wasnt a park them, just a Monument

we had some very decent rains this year, i hear the wildflowers in the desert were incredible
really need to make a point of getting out for that from now on

say dill, loved the video. your format
i like it

do you feed any birds?
have a friend whos really into

the tricks of dealing with hummingbirds
how to not feed the birds you dont want around
some people take it real serious

as a kid and well into adulthood birdwatcher was a slur
looking down on someone

them my friend moved up into old
basically coastal scrub forrest

from his porch was a great view of the canyon
lots of wildlife
lots of birds

he got a nice pair of binoculars with an image stabilizing feature,
man thats nice

im now a birdwatcher

heh

Eh, yes and no. The worst would probably be if part of the cable ever detached during operation...flying projectile. And it will rip into stuff much quicker...be careful around trees and items you don't want torn up. High RPM spinning plastic is damn near as dangerous as cable though. And they make both cable and saw blade heads for trimmers, sooo... :dunno:

PH meter. was fubar so ordered a different one. adding a little

Cool , do you start the garlic from seeds or do you just always break up cloves ?
I'm currently turning over my garden now hoping to get it done before the last snow to help work the snow in too. It seems to be my experience snow is a good Amendment. I think it's in the Farmer's Almanac.
Anyway it takes about 2 months for the garden amendments, meals n manure, to 'cook' before ideal for planting

Thanks, think I'll do that, simplifies.
Cool I've got onion and leek seeds I'm starting shortly, thought garlic might be a good thing to add. Need to fill the small square holes with onion like plants. Earwigs left he leeks alone, but decimated the lettuce and cabbage sooo. onions types it is.

the new garlic is late. others were not looking well. i try
to plant near xmas for garlic. talking gardening with a old
lady in germany. she had been to my state a few years said
we have almost same weather. she told me to plant garlic
near xmas. when ever ground is not froze. i most years have
a booming crop most years. the rest of it was to bend the tops
on 1st of july and pull a week later. i just spent some time and
read all about onions from seed and such. always planted sets.
last years onions did not keep well at all. so found a good storage
onion. was only seeds no sets. reading about onions in a local garden
book. they said to plant onion seeds and let biggest one go to seed
for the next years seed. seeds don't store well. you only need to do
that the 1st year. after that let any 1 of them go to seed. the reason
they say to plant from seed is it's a 1st year onion. where onion sets are
a 2nd year onion. that is why so many go to seed from sets.love learning
new shit.

I have potatoes started, a month ago, and found a big spud in the bag that was full of eyes, so I planted that one the day.
I planted garlic and leeks, back in late November, early December, in a raised bed. I had layered leaves, over them after planting, then laid a some garden wire down over the pill for winter.
Tulips are poking up, in ground and my pots, so I looked under the leaves and see garlic shoots emerging. I really planted those bulbs deep to.

tell it's going to be a odd year. i am going to wait to plant my
carrots and potato's by a month. planted a few flower seeds.

humid in there for them.

well onions under light did not fair well maybe 2-3 make it.
glad i had more seed. soon as they sprout there out of dome.
when i got the seed then planted my pot. then i fluffed up some
old soil from greenhouse. pots that did not sprout last year and such.
mixed in some trace elements and a little pellet ferts. then filled a
med size pot with it. poked 5 holes with finger and put 5 onion seeds
in. then watered a cup or so over 2 days to wet the super dry soil.
put a clear plant tray over it. went to greenhouse today. there is 1
sprout and a 2nd about to sprout. is big enough pot for them. so if
i fail with other onions least got 1 that can go outside and let go to
seed for next years seed. read a lot i should plant them in jan and keep
cut back. then have good size when planting time. live and learn.

grabbed a clove of garlic. when i got home i planted some lettuce

they sunk about a foot over winter. i had also got some sand last month.

What an amazing discovery! Scientists have discovered that ants, after collecting the grains and seeds that they need for winter break those seeds down into halves before storing in their nests because breaking them in half keeps them from germinating even through rain and the most perfect germinating conditions. But scientists were stunned when they discovered that coriander seeds stored in the ant nest were broken down into 4 pieces instead of 2 pieces. After lab research, scientists discovered that a coriander seed will still germinate after being divided into two, but it won’t germinate after it’s divided into four parts. So how do these tiny tiny creatures know all this? Humans know very little, there's a lot to learn from other creatures.

Ants are considerably older than previously believed, having originated 140 million to 168 million years ago, according to new Harvard University research that is the cover story in this weeks issue of the journal Science.
its true about the coriander seeds though i used to break them in half, and they germinate, you can kinda crush them in-between two bricks and sow them and they germinate...

yes always have. but did a lot of reading about onions.
also about gardening here. friend gave me a good book.
gardening north of the cascades. ok onion sets are a 2 year
onion. from a seed is a 1 year onion. 1 year are less likely to
bolt/go to seed. book says to never buy sets to plant seeds.
then let biggest one go to seed for the next years seed. after
that can let any one of them go to seed for the next years seed.
then storage a 1st year onion will last longer than a 2 year onion.
i got a lot last year and did not keep very well. i have picked a good
storage onion south port red. i had also looked for that kind in sets.
did not find any. so i was left with only seed for that kind.
my brother will buy sets and i will plant a few of them.
but i love to grow things so giving this a try.

was sunny off and on today. i dug up a spot for the sunflowers.
is early but got it nice and fluffed up. then my 55 gal plastic
drums. hard freeze made them a little oval not quite round now.
well i did not cover over winter. bro never got around to doing
some cutting for me. will have them covered next winter. since
they were not covered had sunk about a foot in each one. grabbed
my wheel borrow, scoop and 4 tine rake. i wanted to add sand to
these 2 barrels anyway. put a few scoops of other soil in wheel
borrow. then dug about a foot deep into barrel. then i added lime,
scoop of rabbit shit, trace elements, ironite, 3 scoops of peat moss.
then raked and scooped till was well mixed. scooped back into barrel.
was close diid not have much left over. then i did the same for 2nd
barrel. they are topped off now. will cover 1 and plant carrots in other.
just for reference. my scoop is a metal 1 gal grain scoop i have sharpened
leading edge on. works better than shovel on raised beds and my barrels.
i plan on planting carrots and my potatos tomorrow. moon chart says is a
good day to plant root veg's. then weather goes back to rain for week or two.

the one with 2 in it i will try outside. the single inside.

large to get really close.so dug into silverware drawer and picked a

well plan B last years onions only some reds did not rot.
was a few that made it were soft but not rotted. was 4-5
of them. i set on a burlap bag and left them. they sent out
sprouts in the dark room. so today broke them up and planted.
they make it least have some onions lol.
DSCN5194.JPG
the 2nd planting of garlic looks like it did alright. so got garlic.

then here is the owl cut out with bell on bottom. hope to keep
cats out of things. the string had wound up overnight. so i went

well so far i have not seen them. i also put a 2x6 across
gap under gate. has been rainy so there prob under cover.
but with the little rain the poppy plot dirt is all same color.
when fluffed is some dry, some wet looking. the owl is a gamble.
we have owls, hawks, and eagles that perch on the tall trees out
front. so they might be wary of it or the bell on it.

your gopher problem

better. there is 1 more planted with newer seeds i set in greenhouse
the day i planted. there not up yet. seem to be doing ok so far.

planted some more lettuce today. 1st batch is slowly going now.
was nice off and on today so did some weeding. gave some mild
ferts to the onion sprouts. was pro mix i used. so a little food for them.
soaked them pretty good. when dry will only water from the bottom.
if nice tomorrow i might plant the parsley in with the chives in a barrel.
debating getting some peat pucks hydrated. then planting the artichoke
and sunflower seeds in them. thinking in a clone dome and tray in the
greenhouse. then soon as rooted well, into the ground. read about growing
ground potato's. just lay on the ground and cover with straw. after the
plant dies off the potato's are on the ground under the straw. no digging.
thinking i will try it around the artichoke plot between them. i got plenty
of little potato's that have gone to sprout.

noticed some cantaloupe sprouts today in 1 pot. took out
to greenhouse and put in a tray and dome. when i did i
grabbed my tray with the peat pucks. brung them in and
set on heat mat. figured jump start them also. then i hope
my artichoke seeds are good. i let one bloom and make seed
last year. those are seeds i am trying. looked different than
store bought ones. speaking of it it took 2 large pairs of pliers.
pulling the middle of flower out was not easy. the seeds are
under the flower part. it took least 1/2 hour and pulling like
a motherfucker to get middle out piece by piece. so hope they sprout

got cold last night quickly so looked at the weather.
30's so about 11 pm i went and got the cantaloupe from
the greenhouse. from 80's under mat to 30-40's could not
be good. so they are under a mh now.
DSCN5237.JPG
then peppers are growing so slow but still going.
DSCN5239.JPG
today spread some bulb ferts around flowers going
outside. also tossed some to garlic, onions and potatos.
watered a few things since no rain in a few days.
noticed a hill in poppy plot. cat must have noticed it.
need a good rain so they will sprout.

onions in a greenhouse pot seem to be doing well. about time
then i planted a pot with onion seed and put into greenhouse
at same time as 1's growing. the 1 pot was started on heat mat
before it went out there. then i chopped at blackberry vines with
hedge trimmer till hands said to stop. went to the 3 1/2 barrels
and got the cat shit out of them. then fluffed up and covered.
was on a roll. dug out last 2 of the 55 gal drums 1/3 the way.
into wheel borrow. added 3 scoops soil,1 scoop sand, 3 scoops
peat moss, 2 scoops rabbit shit. then lime, trace elements and
some ironite. mixed well and filled the barrels up. then covered
with some trash can lids. so they are ready for june already.

The barrels are for potatoes?
Do you compost your rabbit shit or just use it pretty raw.

potato's are in 2 trash cans. the barrels i use for veg's.
DSCN5226 2.JPG
i mixed in just fresh rabbit shit. used to use 1/2 wood
wine barrels. they wore out. so i replaced with plastic
55 gal drums. then got 3 1/2 barrlels for the yacons.

if my tubers made it thru the winter.. not looked.
1 per 1/2 barrel. i made a handle on each of them.
to harvest i flip them onto plywood and take the yacons out.
i do the potatos same way. speaking of potatos i read something
that cought my eye. you can lay them on the ground. then cover
with straw. then put straw around plants that come up. when they
die off. you remove the straw and potatos are on the ground. no digging.
makes smaller ones but was new to me. i marked with rebar were
the artichokes are going. might plant potatos between them. need
a bale of straw i guess. i have small potatos from last year that have gone
to sprout. be a good use for them.

started on heat mat. then taken out soon as they sprouted.
the back pot i planted at same time and set into greenhouse.
DSCN5247.JPG
then have some carrots sprouting in a barrel.

then here is a flower bed iris and lilly's. a little burned from

Lrus I heard that one could just grow inside the bale of hay and just cut it open to release the potatoes.
But given it's just straw i'd worry about watering.

Well the cantaloupe seeds popped already. All 18 seedlings. I'm surprised they were 7 year old seeds.
And sowed:
Two varieties of bush beans
Three varieties of pole beans
Butternut squash
Summer squashes

Thanks haven't heard that, I do keep them separate, same with the yellow squash and zucchini Since I collect seeds and try to avoid cross pollination. I have grown cucs on my trellis with the cantaloupe, I don't remember the tasting thing but it'd be cool if cucumber started tasting like cantaloupe..maybe..

got 1/4" of rain last night. wish was more poppys need watered in.
some later this week. hope is a good amount. i walked around and
watered most everything outside. see some carrots think i see a beet.
checked artichoke seeds on paper towel. there hollow so seed i made
was not good. ordered some new seeds today. think i might direct plant
4-5 seeds a hole. see how it goes. checked yacon for tubers got only 4.
looking pretty soft but think least 3 will make it. i broke them off and going
to let dry overnight from break, then plant tomorrow. will put them under
the dome in greenhouse. got 2 pots of the 1st onion sprouts just a few in
them that made it. i might plant some of them outside tomorrow. think i
see 1 watermelon sprout in dome with heat mat. hope more pop overnight.

forgot to take a photo of the yacon tubers. planted them into
4 pots today. then let soak water from a tray. want top kind of
dry so hope they do not rot. then i figured fuck it. i watered
heavy part of the raised bed where onions will go. took the 2
pots that only had a few living onions in them. broke them up
and planted. then grabbed the tallest pot of onions. then finished
planting were i want them. repotted left over onions. and watered
them. i have 1 more pot that are sprouting well. from not enough to
lots of extra's. if bro wants some he can have some rest i think i will
just plant as green onions. so if you look close at photo's i got my onions in.
DSCN5256.JPG
DSCN5255.JPG
then the cantaloupe under MH looking mighty yellow. i think i will risk
putting them in a tray/dome in greenhouse. i see 2 watermelon sprouts under
heat mat tonight. they might go out also. hope more sprout overnight.

what do you mean you break your onions up? Do they have to have the root bottom as part of them or just large enough pieces will sprout?

Well I emptied out my three compost piles to finish amending the garden. I filled two of them up with oak leaves last summer. Composted very nicely and really attracted the earthworms. I found a whole potato at the bottom of one pile, it didn't Sprout, it didn't compost, it looks fresh?? Odd as hell since the only potato i would have thrown away would have been rotten.
Yacon seeds have arrived at my post office so I'll be going to town today for that after I fix the battery rack on my truck. Then I'll be starting on my canna seeds. Oh boy more old seeds I have to sweat out if they'll germ. Thinking of trying munchy's floating method on some.

looked today the ones i planted yesterday look good today.
DSCN5257.JPG
then have some cantaloupe and watermelon seeds that sprouted.
last night i took 4 of those blue ice packs and put into a gallon
bag. then taped some black plastic onto it. for a heatsink in the
dome with melons. you can see it in the back.

got a little rain. says more over next few days. the rain barrel
i been dipping out of was near full. did not want to. but watered
the poppy plot with watering can. maybe cats will leave wet soil
alone. 2 of the watermelon had seed husks clamped on. so 1st one
squeezed husk and popped off ok. 2nd one was on tighter so really
pinched. then went to gently lift and poof my tremors, yanked it
right out. so 1 less melon hope more of the seeds sprout in the pots.
the planted onions look good today still. more rain the better.

Just finished building a new trellis. In time for the pole beans, tho might wait another week. It looks like I'll be planting the garden early, normally May 15th to June 15th is the planting date, all depending upon the weather, we've had snow in May before. Same old, i want to get a jump start but don't want to risk losing it all with a freak snow storm.

Still waiting on the yacons to pop..

read a lot, lol was reading that to get bigger root crops
to use potash. so got a 4lb bag, pricey shit 0-0-60. is larger
pellets like 1/4". *on bag not for container crops* lol.
spread small amounts to the potatos, garlic, onions and
flower bulbs. then read about ground potatos. lay on the
ground and cover with straw. asked bro to get me a bail.
the ground where is am putting them got some potash and
some bulb ferts to rain in. i figured it could not hurt. got
a bunch of sprouting potatos just need some straw.had 1
more artichoke sprout today. took to greenhouse makes 5
5 more to go. carrots are almost big enough to thin.
then lastly cut some fresh leaf lettuce to go with my dinner.

I'd. never heard of them before but you're limited @ home depot sooz I took a chance. Should be a bit hotter than a habanaro.

Wiki:"The Armageddon chili pepper is the world's first F1[a] 'Super Hot' chili pepper.[2] It is a hybrid of C. chinense and C. frutescens. Armageddon was developed by hot pepper grower and developer, Salvatore Genvoese of the UK. It was introduced to the UK market in 2019. The pepper holds a rating of 1.3 million SHU (Scoville Heating Units). "

Oh yeah Ya got to have some hot chilies.

The only hot chili that sprouted this year for me was Italian wax. Not a real hot one but nice and prolific. But yesterday a Peru chili popped up. Jes when I gave up on it. I'm glad because it's the last of my seeds sowed. It's a hotter chili, thick & meaty. I got the seeds from for my friend who brought some back from his mother-in-law's garden in Peru. So I don't know the actual name I just call it Peru. Would hate to lose it, happy to see one it pop up.
