few years back, a friend at work seen these 2 doors that
a co. was going to be throw away. they are old from 1800's.
he asked if i wanted them. i said sure. when i got them my
bro really liked the nicer one. so gave it to him. well got
around to cutting top and bottom rot off. i want to stain it.
so brushed off and put onto 2 sawhorses today.

i planned on 3 colors of stain
first i did side of door with tung oil cut heavy with mineral spirits
did this 3 times 30 min apart.then after a hour i did natural.
med walnut and black walnut. each 45 min or so apart.
after the 3rd coat of each. the med walnut looked
very much like the natural after drying a bit. well i
changed my mind. i re stained the med with black walnut.
is 5 panels was going to be 3 black 2 light walnut. now is the
5 panels black walnut and frame natural. will snap a photo
tomorrow after it dry's. then will flip door and do other side.

i remember a few places we'd visit as a kid they had skeleton keys for those old locksets...

well was picking up to put on porch. the bottom side
had sucked up stain and oil. took it's time. oil will do that.
looked a little bleached. so OCD kicked in.
added more stain. did both black walnut and natural again.
guess i am not done yet. will do other side again also.
the more it soaks in the better. the wood grain will look deeper.
