Sidney Powell, attorney who aided Trump’s bid to subvert election, pleads guilty

Powell’s guilty plea makes her the first member of Trump’s close advisers to admit to crimes related to the 2020 election.

6 years probation, agrees to testify against co-defendants, and is not allowed to speak to other defendants or the media about the case.

A plea to misdemeanor charges signals that prosecutors see high value in her testimony. Trump should be nervous. and it's likely she'll be a witness in the federal case too.

The charges she pled to regarding tampering with voting machines is the tip of the iceberg about what she knows about the conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election. We know from testimony before the J6 Committee that Trump wanted to appoint Powell as a Special Counsel to investigate "election fraud." This was a delay tactic to prevent the counting of the electoral votes on J6 hoping that Republican state legislatures would then determine their was fraud and replace the slate of Biden electors with Trump's. The appointment didn't happen because every member of his White House Counsel's Office threatened to resign and Trump backed down.

But Powell and Trump had an alternate plan they put into effect. But that plan needed the electoral count to be delayed on J6. Trump's mob almost pulled it off for them.

Powell said Nancy Pelosi wanted to file a brief opposing her attempt, but says that either Kevin McCarthy or Steve Scalise somehow blocked her from being able to do that.

Powell then said, "everything then broke loose," referring to the insurrection on J6. Had the electoral count been delayed, that could have played into Powell's hands with her attempt to get Alito to take up the case. However, she noted that her lawsuit then became moot because of the actions of Pelosi:
"She had to really speed up reconvening Congress to get the vote going before Justice Alito issued an injunction to stop it all, which is what should have happened."

Pelosi's [and Mitch McConnell] determination to immediately reconvene Congress after the insurrection to resume the electoral count was absolutely crucial to stopping Trump and Powell's plan.

This shows specifically why Trump wanted the electoral count to be stopped and why he refused to take any actions to stop the riot. A delay was exactly what his lawyer, Sidney Powell, was hoping for while she anxiously awaited Justice Alito to issue an injunction to stop the count.
