my try at outdoor mushrooms

since the jars and bags you can buy are sterile almost always
its easy to get one up and running

perhaps let one of the larger sized bags colonize then dump that into your bigger batch?

my try at outdoor mushrooms

Post by Lrus007 »

been doing some deep reading and thinking.
first off my chip pile. i need to spread it out some
add some N put some soil and grass seed onto it.
i need a decomposing wood pile for the mushroom
mycelium to even take to it. that will take some time.
i have all the proper things now. spore prints, syringes
proper growing bags. the rye and sawdust/shavings.
and a pressure cooker. 2 hours in pressure cooker is
a long time. but i need to wait till i got wood pile ready.
my nephew picks mushrooms this time of year. said if
he see's any cyans. he will pick me some and do some
baggie spore prints. also bring me some of other kinds.

so guess i will bump this thread in the future.

as i recall
the plug starters for edibles wanted logs cut down 6 to 9 months ago

curious also the source of your sawdust and chips

mushroom varities are often specific to certain species of trees the down wood comes from...

chips need to start decomposing before i can dose pile.
i spread them out some from pile. i need to get a bale
of peat moss. then will cover with the peat and plant some
winter rye onto pile. then when it starts decomposing. i got
bags, rye and hardwood and spore prints. so is on hold a while.

Here is my oyster, I found it in its late stage and still don’t trust my ID enough to eat....any imposters wouldn’t be deadly but they could cause stomach pain.

from my read
a microscope set to read spore sizes is good for deciding whats good and whats not

beside physical attributes and spore color spore size is a a great indicator...

good luck
beside puffballs oysters are the next easiest to positively identify

so ive learned
and survived...
the intolerance of the old order is emerging from the rosy mist in which it has hitherto been obscured.

"Here is my oyster..."

Hmm...initially I thought you were mistaken, so I googled. Was surprise to see such a large variation in appearance. Interesting. :)
