I got my train ticket home, leaves on Tuesday 24. I'm in Old Station town. Went as far into Lassen National Park turned around at the closed sign. very smoky days. My next Supply drop would have
been Chester Town which is now evacuated. burnt?
Sorry no pics, limited bandwidth.
Yep roots. yer right, should have went Mendocino way.

Mendocino National Forest is closed too....I've been living with smoke for two straight weeks, at least I don't have ash raining down on me.

Still in Old station, at JJ's Cafe with wifi!
Burney Falls Smokey skies
Big Red sun every morning from the smoke. Bear tracks, the only new tracks on the trail.

The wind shifted and skies got Sunny... for a day.
Frozen lava flow. Checked out the Subway again, a collapse lava tube. See my "gimme the good earth III" thread. Did some exploring and found two more collapse lava tubes not on the maps.
Entrance to the first one. After a climb down into the cave it started out as a big room and then quickly reduced to three feet high, went back about 20 more feet.

Looking back up at the collapse entrance.
Entrance to the second cave.
It only went back about eight feet. But the roof was dripping water yer the whole top area was dry as a bone.

Even though the skies were blue today the view of Mount Lassen was still smoky hazy.
By the evening and next day the smoke was back with a vengeance.
With the park closed, National Forest Closing in a couple days, smokey skies, six miles from the fire front and no chance of resupplying. I turned around and hiked back the two days to old station town.
Old buckboard.
Fire crews came from all over. These guys were from Santa Barbara. Tomorrow they start preparing for a backburn to protect Old Station town and contain the northern western front of the wildfire
