how course in the stuff you are using? I always think of it as way course

Not course enough actually, when I'm done buffering I'll add a great deal of perlite so there will be even more room for air. I'm no expert either The pro's to coco is more oxygen to the roots

that is true working in water drowning roots in water full of air here is tough
I use pro mix hp or something similar I add about 25 % more super chunky perlite and super course
vermiculite for my adult plants
I love a light course well draining soil-less and I tried to use it outside last year I thought it was going to
be the death of me
I was watering three times a day too much work

Do that outside you want 5 gallon buckets with 1/4 inch holes drilled about 3 inches above bottom, then add mulch on top and that gets it down to once every day or so
Of course thats just theory as I would never do anything to break any laws
