[A]n AI has shown it can tag people based on their chess-playing behavior, an advance in the field of "stylometrics" that could help computers be better chess teachers or more humanlike in their game play. Alarmingly, the system could also be used to help identify and track people who think their online behavior is anonymous. [...] To design and train their AI, the researchers tapped an ample resource: more than 50 million human games played on the Lichess website. They collected games by players who had played at least 1000 times and sampled sequences of up to 32 moves from those games. They coded each move and fed them into a neural network that represented each game as a point in multidimensional space, so that each player's games formed a cluster of points. The network was trained to maximize the density of each player's cluster and the distance between those of different players. That required the system to recognize what was distinctive about each player's style.

The researchers tested the system by seeing how well it distinguished one player from another. They gave the system 100 games from each of about 3000 known players, and 100 fresh games from a mystery player. To make the task harder, they hid the first 15 moves of each game. The system looked for the best match and identified the mystery player 86% of the time, the researchers reported last month at the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS). "We didn't quite believe the results," says Reid McIlroy-Young, a student in Anderson's lab and the paper's primary author. A non-AI method was only 28% accurate. [...] The researchers are aware of the privacy risks posed by the system, which could be used to unmask anonymous chess players online. With tweaks, McIlroy-Young says, it could do the same for poker. And in theory, they say, given the right data sets, such systems could identify people based on the quirks of their driving or the timing and location of their cellphone use.

Thanks to Roundup my place has been poison oak free 4 decades, after a week of spraying every little piece of poison oak in acres whilst bundle up like a mummy

ive ripped out some seriously big stretches of poison oak to get at rocks to climb
all bundled up of course
but ive had that fail once

above 2500' down here the po changes from shrubs and trees to wispy single stem stuff

and at altitude the stuff is far less virilant than the stuff down in the foothills

ive seen property eradicated of po using round up BUT using it sparingly
one spary of one branch of any single plant is enough to kill it eventually after a few repeats of such treatment

today is day 86 since i smoked a cig or weed gonna be 90 days in 4 days..

can't believe it, this is the longest ive been without smoking for decades..

things i noticed, absolutely fuckall.. not even coughed since i quit i was looking forward to coughing up all the fucking mucus in my lungs, but the doctor told me not everyone coughs after quitting, really disappointed !!!

since i quit i use to get up in the morning and think of smoking but slowly that feeling has gone away every now again i feel like having a big fat spliff but that's seldom now..

one thing i noticed my lungs don't start to burn up while i am exercising or jumping rope.

i put on some weight too but good weight so thats good..

i do miss smoking weed not cigs as much, i miss getting high, but fuck it ive been doing it for so long.....

I'm 65 now,
30+years a tobacco smoker, quit 35 years ago. Took about 8-10 years to quit the morning cough session.
Weed smoker 53 years now, will weed use/smoke until I'm composted. The cough now is only
from a good hit.

it never ceases to amaze me how many online buyers respond
to a missing parcel with a 'Delivered' tracking scan
by leaving a negative feedback point for the seller.
I realize it's a disturbing situation,
but how could it actually be the fault of a seller?
do they think the tracking was hacked?

the Delivered scans are being done automatically by the USPS Hub,
assuming the local PO will complete it that day,
but sometimes they sit on stuff for a day or 3...

Agreed but from The Devil's Advocate point of view. there is no usps delivery to the rural dirt back roads that the majority of the population lives on here. everybody even in town, have a post office box. Everyone. UPS delivery fine to the address but not always to post office box.

Anyway if I give my actual physical address and it sent USPS I won't get it. But there's some items like lithium batteries that won't be sent by Amazon and eBay to a post office box, eBay's good about it telling you the method ahead of time but if they don't adhere to it, screws me over.

Getting Amazon to send to PO Boxes all the time is a known problem in this town and the post office has offered the use of their physical address that we can all use. Sorta like general delivery but Amazon or eBay doesn't know it.

So I can see how one could get mad at the sender for non-delivery, sometimes. it's happened to me but I never gave a bad rating fwiw.
