I just turned it on after going through my normal processing and see lots of gas bubbles.
I wonder if any of you know, is there an optimum temperature for the purge?

Just below flash point where the vapor pressure is highest if speed is of the essence.

Speed is less important than not screwing it up.
It is a 3 cfm pump so I was thinking of running it a couple of hours at about 90 degrees.

If you can do 120 for a while you should try to make honeycomb.

You should be good up to that for a couple hours just to purge also.

The hotplate I found sucks. I can't control the low end of the temperature scale very well and I worry about over cooking.

If you can get grain alcohol you can purge in liquid. It's basically how I do it.

I don't really understand the subtlelties between shatter and wax and honeycomb.
A buddy grabbed me some pharmecuetical grade shatter from a compassion center and it was great.
That is what I am trying to duplicate.
Is it just a matter of time in the vacuum chamber that separates one from the other?

The way I have found of making shatter is taking the grain alcohol and you do small pours and let them dry before pouring the next little bit. If you pour it all at once you get more like a standard BHO. Clear but gooey. Using a liquid lets you get it cold and filter it again removing a lot of wax and helps make the end product a little harder.

The way I found to make honeycomb is to simply cook your mostly purged BHO at 115 or so until its solid. You can skip the vacuum with this or the liquid method. This to me looks like the easiest extract to handle. It basically looks and handles like sugar cookie.

So far all I have made is BHO first I take my mostly purged BHO add it to alcohol. Freeze and filter it again (winterize). Then I pour it into my dish to evaporate slowly. Last time I just poured it all at once. The time before i kind of did the small pour thing and it does come out like shatter.

This is what I do, modified for me.

This shows you how to make honeycomb. You can probably skip the first 9 min or so cuz he's just doing the extract. And I'm sorry, he does vacuum purge before he makes it into honeycomb. I plan on trying this when I find a good low temp hot plate.

hey dick

whats your chamber?
homemade or store bought?

25 years ago i did moldmaking with this two part stuff
flexable when dry

had a square plate about 14 inches square
and this giant domed glass to place over it

must have been 2 feet tall

i was way back before the time
in regards to indoor climbing

the few in the industry
were having to deal with their resins eating their molds
so they had to replace them often

id figured out a concrete mix that was much more less corosive

but the weights of them made the shipping exorberant
and that was that

cept for a couple dozen people who still my hundreds of originals

they were praised because they were so cool to the touch
as compared to what was and is the line then and today

which sacres me as i realize i never cleaned it properly

it was labratory stuff best i can figure
like i said
huge defense department facility
that was selling off their stuff like it was nobodies business

fire sales
and in fact

lots of free
hey,
come and get it

that might have been radioactive for all i know

id thought about getting back in last year
drilling a plate out
figured i could use some of the 10 inches diameter pvc i got on hands

cut it off several inches tall

them use a big sander to make sure the ends were flat
put a gauge in the top to show the vacuum it was achieving

figured i could just use a sheet of plexy on top
and that goop to make it work

has somebody already figuered out how pornographic the thread title is ... :roflmao:

Dick, things havent changed much, a buddy of mine worked at a chem refilling facility, got fired or quit, bc the company was deaf when it was about health ... no masks, no overalls, no pollution checks (human) ... cheap workers, savings on every level of work ... and it wasnt just "normal" chems, biolgically active chems / bacteria ... the stuff where the biohazard sign stems off

I did a couple of dabs tonight and it has become incredibly sticky.
It is on parchment paper and I am keeping it in the freezer.
I bought a hot air gun to make it harder but I might just put up with the stickiness.

well it will pick up moisture in the freezer is why it's sticky.
the best hard oil is left out in open air covered for a few weeks.
but since you bought a ronald jeremy pump and plan to use it.
take bho then after it has somewhat dried add everclear it will
bubble as the butane breaks it's bond. then you can winterise and
filter if you wish. doing so will make a more oily oil but cleaner.
then put into your vacuum chamber. heat can be added, try to not
go over 120º F. you are at this time evaporating the everclear the
butane is gone from oil at this point. after let oil air dry a while. breaking
the top layer so more of the oil has a chance to dry.
now for those of us that do not have a vacuum chamber. the way to
make a faster solid is in a corning dish. heat dish to 120º and lay a thin layer of
oil across it then let it cool a few hours then blade it off dish. then
collect it up and let it air dry. this will make a solid oil also.

the best way is time... few weeks, a month or longer loosely covered in open air....
breaking the top layer every so often to expose oil to air as it skins over.
hope this helps and good luck

There should be a really cheap ghetto way to do a small partially evacuated container, if you design it half right all the seals will be held in place by the vacuum inside. A 5 gallon restaurant mavo bucket could probably be made to work.

read lately about a cool "ghetto home made" destiller

actually its just this device you use on baby bottles to keep the milk warm / hot , has a temp in the ideal range

take the baby soother, cut off a part so that a silicon hose fits through it, fix it with gaffer

fill baby bottle with desired mix, either at purging stage , or before when you wanna destill i.e. 70% iso to make 99% or whatever has to be destilled into it, turn on and put the silicon hose into a collecting bottle or dish or whatever

best done where its cool/cold enough so that the vapor can condense within the hose, of course the longer the hose the better for the cooling

yeah and the bottle should be made of glass, not those plastic bottles

Oh wow man.. I just found this gem. Wowee can I think of things we can do with that thing and make some money on it. How about a big cannon machine gun right through the middle with water surrounding in the TUBE for cooling.

Keep from melting that gun barrel due to pounding of air/space/time pressures.

or.. wow .. man.. can you miniaturize that that? make it run on batteries?

Talk about a profit maker... I get 30% commission for idea on gross. our you can't use my idea.
