45 days till germination on the chocolate jolokia !!!?
Indeed, the challenge begins right away from germination.
They'll also need well over 3 months veg before they start producing any useful fruit.
I bet you'd have to grow a bunch out to find a good one.
Some Bhut Jolokia/Naga have poor growth and small yeilds.
Seamaiden wrote:Three weeks for the 'regular' Bhut Jolokia here. I'll tell you what helped, in my opinion, was the Roots Excellurator. See, my veg-table was The Place, and I got a free sample and decided to use it for some cuts I was taking. Since Dave's starts are in the same table, it's been easier to just give 'em a drink with my potion than go back and get plain water. There may have been other factors (kelp extract added to the RE), such as the woman's touch, but I've used those products before (with my cuts) and did not observe what I've observed this time. Out of a tray of about 18 cuts I lost two, that's pretty good for me.

I just checked out your link to Nickie's. The Bhut Jolokia we have came from the Chile Pepper Institute, through my dad. He's gonna pop when he finds out what I've done, he's tried several times to get them going.
I've seen a few nurseries selling specific chilli germination powder/ferts etc but I've never tried any.
I remember some Bhuts popping up 3 weeks after others had surfaced so patience, constant high heat/humidity does pay off.
I bought from a few different seed sellers just to see the variety.
Let's hope we get a fine summer this year.
My Trinidad Scorpions (indoors) have started putting out flowers already.......

My pride in popping the BJs was shortlived. My father has been trying them for a couple of years now, no success. My husband asked if he could use some space in my veg-table for his run, and I couldn't help but give them care while I'm working with my girls, ya know? So here I am all kinds of proud that I got them to pop the first time around and my dad sends me pictures of his that are now about 2" high already. WTF, Dad? Way to burst my bubble.

All five are putting on a fresh canopy of leaves and flowers are showing all over.
Can't wait to move them outside and have some room again.
We're gonna need more sunshine to get the flowers to open I think...... :smoke:

Thanks.
This overwintering thing does really give you a good head start on the season.
Especially important if you may be unlucky enough to have a short season too. :winky:
