I tried insurance when I was in my late 20s. I felt since I was young and healthy, I wasn't gonna shuck out 500$ a month for a low percentage occurrence. I've had some medical visits, but paid out of pocket. I have some ailments now, but manage them on my own.
I've already outlived 99% of the males in my lineage, so I figure, I'm on bonus time. My bucket list is pretty much checked off, so if I die, I die.
What I don't want is to be a bed ridden burden to my family. I'd rather just croak.

I have good medical insurance and still have problems.
I had high blood pressure and went through a bunch of pills and finally found one that works, they payed for it for four months and then said we don’t cover it….now I take three pills just to do what that one pill did.

had a long history of issues with Kaiser, they sent my step-mom home with a flu diagnosis, but it was actually a neck aneurism which she died of a couple of days later. Then they left my sister to die of a pulmonary embolism while sitting in their emergency waiting room. but I never thought of killing their CEO. Avoiding Kaiser since then like the plague, we've long been stuck with $5000 annual deductibles, so any doctor visit or video call starts at $300, so I just avoid that whenever possible. but when I had 3 surgeries in 2017 including open-heart, so many huge bills were showing up, and then the big one was for over $500,000... but that was all covered after the deductible. i recall that one of the pills they had given me daily in the hospital was over $1800 each.

in Scotland medicine and healthcare is FREE whether you are employed or unemployed
This means that, if you are employed or self-employed in Scotland you are entitled to free healthcare from the NHS – as well as your spouse and your immediate family. Since 2011, prescriptions filled in Scotland are free of charge.

maybe that's one of the reasons why you are paying the most for medicine because you don't protest, they keep on charging you sky-high prices for, medicine and healthcareMunchy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 9:58 pmhad a long history of issues with Kaiser, they sent my step-mom home with a flu diagnosis, but it was actually a neck aneurism which she died of a couple of days later.
