DOGMA (1999)

This...is a classic.👍 It was pretty much a throw away project that turned into a cult classic. The humor and philosophical commentary are what make this movie. A big 'fuk you' to religion...and yet a stamp of approval at the same time...exploring both the hypocrisy and simplicity of it all. But by and large, it should keep you chuckling throughout.

Dogma is a favorite... Harvey Weinstein owns it and had a bone to pick with Kevin Smith so he won't release it to be shown anywhere.

I don't think you can even get it on DVD/BluRay anymore either.

Stuff to watch on mushrooms...

I had no idea...

It's weird...sometimes things don't go right, like last week, and sometimes everything goes off without a hitch, like this week. :)
Been doing slightly lower doses of the Golden Teacher lately, so I thought I'd switch it up a little this week with 3.4g of the Tidal Wave. It's a bit stronger than the GT, and was almost a gram more than I've been doing...glad I went that route. And the cuisine to follow the dose was a very tasty mushroom and cheese strudel...yummy.

For the first selection of the evening, I figured I would finish up the Thor movies. This last one was very colorful, and the CGI sets in the movie looked fantastic. While it's an action movie, this one leaned heavy into the love story of Thor and Jane...that kept the movie lighter in tone, rather than completely focusing on the 'dark forces' they are fighting. And of course, as with the rest of the Thor movies, the sound track was awesome. All in all, a good pick for the list.

Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)

On to the main event...

Same one that was planned for last week, but wouldn't play. This week it worked fine. The film came up in the feed of new releases at 123movie, and when I pulled up the trailer, it looked very interesting. Great colors, fantastic sets, and very cool cinematography. But the thing is, I didn't watch the whole trailer. I tend not to watch all the way thru, so as not to reveal too much. What I thought I was getting was a feel good B-movie with focus on visual style. Had I bothered to check the genre, I would have seen this is technically a 'horror' movie.

All the visual aspects of the movie are top notch...very stimulating for the mind. There's a story, but there isn't. It is very disjointed, yanking you from one place to another without any regard to continuity..."didn't see that coming". And while there are certainly some jump scares throughout, the 'horror' aspect is more theatrical than realistic. And the music score was awesome, really meeting the vibe of what was going on at the moment. This is another personal favorite for me.

The Blue Rose (2024)

...or can be rented on a few other streaming services.

And once again, while I still had time to squeeze in another movie, I was absolutely wiped out after this one. I was in a really great place, and I decided to end it there and bask in the glow that I was feeling.

Cartoons...

Wanted to do some animation flicks...a new one, and a couple classics. Kicked things off pretty normal, 3g of Golden Teacher chased with some cheese sticks with marinara sauce. Waited for 30 minutes, before I started the first movie, because I wanted to be tripping when I began watching. Also entering the scene will be some bowls of Milk 'n' Cookies.

First up is a 1973 film that makes all these lists...Fantastic Plant. I've been aware of the movie for a long time, but I'd never watched it. This is a perfect example of a movie that's on everybody's list, and I for the life of me can't figure out why.:dunno: The colors are dull, the artwork is not that great, the story is very meh, it was in French (I had to read subtitles...I hate subs when tripping). It's a fairly short movie, just over an hour, but I felt like it was dragging on and on. Sorry, but this one does not make the list...I would not recommend it.

Now on to one that I know is good. I've watched this one before...just not while tripping. Right out of the gate, the movie is vibrantly colorful. I mean like colors on steroids. I think the mushrooms really turned that up a bit. It's a Madhouse production, so the artwork is top notch. And the story is a fantastical tale that keeps you guessing as it unfolds. The only downside is that an English dubbed version of the movie can be difficult to find sometimes...but the dubbing does match up with the animation very well. I highly recommend this movie, it is another personal favorite of mine.

Paprika (2006)

Trailer:

Full movie:

...or...
https://ww4.9animes.org/watch/paprika-dub
...or...
https://animixplay.tube/watch/paprika-dub/ep-1
...or can be seen/rented on several other streaming services.

On to the final movie, a new release.......FUK!! It's a cam version. I'm not doing that, I'll wait for the HD version. What to do, what to do...hmm. I hate being in this position, tripping good, on a high note from a good movie, with nothing on deck as a backup plan. I don't want to waste time looking for something that may or may not be good. I have too much of the trip left to end here, but I also want something good. So instead of wasting time and effort, I fall back to a movie that's already on the list and is also a personal favorite...Redline. It is also a Madhouse production, so it fit right in with Paprika.

Some kids watch Saturday morning cartoons...some kids watch Saturday night cartoons. :p

Going dark...

This one, is not for everyone.

It's been on my list since I started all this...and I've finally worked up the courage to do it. There's only one movie lined up, because it's long, and because it's one of the most immersive and surreal movies that I've ever seen. The important thing to note though, is that it is dark...very, very dark. It is not for the faint of heart. You must be able to handle the darker side of humanity to take in it's message. The sets and nature shots are stunning...the soundtrack and score are awesome. Unlike most of the movies on this list, this is not entertainment, rather it's an experience.

Setting the stage...
Little bit different than normal. I ate a couple hours beforehand, so I'm only eating the mushroom, no snack to chase it. I've been smoking bowl after bowl since dinner. I'm doing just one rather large mushroom, a 4g Tidal Wave...almost to 'hero' dose level, because I want to go in deep. Turn out the lights, throw a comforter over my legs, and pull the throw pillows up around me...I almost feel like I'm in a very comfortable cocoon. I wait 45 minutes, continuing to smoke my pipe, and when I begin to feel the mushroom really grabbing me, I start the movie...

Apocalypse Now Redux (1979/2001)

I've seen all the versions before, and Redux is the one best suited for this experience. It's 3h 22m long...watch all the way through the ending credits. The pirate link I watched didn't have the 6 minutes of credits, so I had to find those on y/t.

Trailer:

Full movie:

...or...

...or...
https://ridomovies.tv/movies/apocalypse ... e-1979-rd1
...or can be seen/rented on a few other streaming services.

Ending credits:

By the time it was finished, I was exhausted...just stunned by the surreal experience.

This is definitely a personal favorite of mine...I highly recommend the experience.

The Grindhouse genre...

Ever since the double feature Grindhouse (Planet Terror and Death Proof) came out, I've been hooked on the genre. Purposely made to look like the old 60s and 70s grindhouse movies, they usually top their original counter parts. They started out as cheap B-movies played at seedier theaters and drive-ins. Usually by the time you got to see them, there were scratches, missing sections, damaged parts, etc. Now they put those defects in intentionally to give the movie that grindhouse feel.

They are usually action movies, with a lot of violence...a lot of gratuitous tits & ass...bad writing and bad acting...shaky camera shots, with a lot of in and out of focus going on...and everything is absolutely, positively over the top...way over the top...so much so that it feels a bit cartoonish. These are not literary works of art by any means. They are strictly entertainment. You get characters to hate...and characters to cheer for. Definitely would make for good group viewing.

After last week's heavy trip, I wanted to go lighter this week. Again I ate hours beforehand...and only did 2.5g of Golden Teacher. Adding a couple bowls of CreamZ for something to smoke. I was kind of worried if the genre would fit with mushrooms or not...I worried if the particular movies I picked would be any good. While it does occasionally happen, I hate to come up empty-handed. Luckily, that would not be the case. The three movies I ended up watching were great...

Settling in for the long haul...

...or how to stretch a six hour trip to cover seven hours of movie. :p

This trilogy has been on my list to review since I started this project. The movies can be watched individually, but I wanted to experience them in one long viewing. The trouble is, even skipping the end credits, they are over seven hours in total...this is going to take some stretching of things to accomplish, but I have a plan. I'm going to change up the dosing a little bit, and I've recruited some extra help. I'm starting out with 2g of Tidal Wave and 100mg of gummies. Then when I'm an hour and a half in, I'm taking another 1.5g of Tidal Wave with another 100mg of gummies. In addition, I've got some really potent outdoor from a friend to smoke on. That should be enough to keep me lit for the duration.

I ate earlier, followed with a couple hour nap...then I got up ready to start. Movies all cued up, lights out, comforter and pillows surround me, and an ice cold energy drink for the ride. I don't plan on moving until it's all over. While I've prepped the best I can for home viewing, I can't stress enough that the best viewing would be in a Lay-Z-Boy IMAX theater...for the epic feels. That is because I think that this may be the best cinematic masterpiece trilogy I've ever seen for tripping. The coloring, the grittiness of the characters' looks, the expansive views, the fantastical CGI, the dramatic music scoring, the out of this world cinematography...it's like these movies were made for someone that's tripping. All three of these land squarely as personal favorites.

That's weird...

This week I just wanted to kick back and chill...watch some strange yet visually stimulating movies. My selections for the evening have all been waiting on review since I started the project. I did a mild dose, 2.6g of Golden Teacher, and got started. I began with the most questionable movie...The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988). Halfway through and the pirate site didn't want to finish streaming the movie. And to be honest, I wasn't feeling it either. Age has not been kind to this movie. So I wrote off finishing it and moved on to the next one...

This was a good solid pick. A strange tale...a gritty look...fantasy. Definitely an enjoyable ride. I had forgotten just how many big names were in this production. This too was giving me problems on the pirate site, and as I was searching for an alternative I found the full movie on y/t...and I found the next movie as well. So no pirate links this time, just the y/t hook-up.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009)

Trailer:

Full movie:

The final selection is another strange movie I'd seen when it came out. All I really remembered aboot it was the weird looking sets for most of the movie. This is another big name showcase...and Jim Carrey really makes it a good trip. By the time I was done, I was relaxed and felt very comfortable. Despite the first movie fail, the other two made up for it.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)

A love story...

...AND a musical?....WTF Bob! 😕

Yeah, that's what I thought too. :p
I had run across a trailer to a movie that referenced The Beatles.
It looked a bit trippy so I though I'd give it a shot. :dunno:

As I was digging up info and links, I see it described as a love story...strike one.
Then I also see that it's a musical...strike two. It's not looking good.
I'm just doing 2.5g of Golden Teacher and looking to chill...
...smoking on some of the fine cannabis that I spent the day trimming up yesterday.

I wait an hour after taking the dose, because this is the only movie on deck for the evening.
As I'm waiting for the mushrooms to kick in, I'm just puffing and puffing on the bowl.
Feeling pretty chill as I start the movie. Main character is 'Jude'...that makes sense.
But it's starting off really slow. I'm over 30 minutes into a 2+ hour movie, and I'm wondering if it's even worth finishing.
Is this going to be strike three?

I just tell myself to grin and bear it...let the chips fall where they may...and I'm glad I did.
This is a creeper movie...starts out slow and just keeps getting better and better as you go.
The music was the main reason I got interested in the movie...it's all Beatles music, performed by the actors.
It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride, each tune being matched up with the story as it progresses.
And the visually trippiest scenes in the movie are during the songs...almost like an inserted music video.

Despite the questionable beginning, I'd have to say this is another personal favorite...highly recommended.

An evening with Tim Burton...

I just wanted something that was odd...and Burton's work definitely fits that bill. Didn't want to get too involved, just wanted to kick back and chill on a mild dose, watch some strange shit, and have some laughs. Hadn't eaten for a while so the dose is on an empty stomach, with no snack to follow...just an energy drink to wash it down with. I stayed fairly mild with 2.7g of Tidal Wave. Gave it aboot a 20 minute head start and then began the movies.

The first one I've seen several times, so I'm familiar with it...but I haven't seen it for quite some time. Mostly I remembered it was colorful, had some cool freaky sets, and was an outstanding performance by Michael Keaton. It was very enjoyable to see again, as I had forgotten much of the storyline. And, for an older movie it held up pretty well...not what I would consider outstanding, but definitely a very solid choice.

Beetlejuice (1988)

Trailer:

Full movie:
http://realitypoint.com/HTML/Beetlejuice%20(1988).html
...or...

...or...
https://www.tokyvideo.com/fr/video/beetlejuice
...or can be seen/rented on numerous other streaming services.

Then of course we have to follow that up with the sequel...which was the reason for watching the original to begin with, continuity. It was more colorful, had more freaky sets and freaky characters, was another stellar performance from Keaton, and was overall even funnier. I had a whole bunch of belly rolling laughs watching this one. It ended up being the best of the three movies for the evening. Definitely a great trip, and likely better having watched both back-to-back.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)

Trailer:

Full movie:
https://ridomovies.tv/movies/beetlejuic ... ejuice-rd3
...or can be rented at a few other streaming services.

For the come down side of the trip, I wanted to stick with another Burton movie, so that I could stay in the same zone of weirdness. As I was browsing his filmography I ran across a title that I was unfamiliar with. Pulled up the trailer and gave it a watch. It was less funny...more fantasy story. Very chill, very relaxing, with just the right amount of strangeness to it. And it has Samuel L. Jackson in it...he makes a great villain. This movie was a great way to round out the trip.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016)
