Zappa – the more things change, the more they stay the same
We weren't really into Zappa but my mate's older brother had a friend who was right into him and that guy had a fast car (we were too young to drive) so we'd do anything to jump in and go for a ride and the whole time he'd be shifting gears, smoking it up and playing Zappa and we'd be "What the fuck music is this?" and he'd say "The guy who discovered Alice Cooper" and we were like "OK, that's cool" and then we'd go off and listen to Alice Cooper and ended up getting right into him instead. But I still remember some of those Zappa songs when I hear them and years later I saw Alice Cooper in concert when he was about 90 years old – coz he must be about 100 years old now – and he sounded old and tired and I wished I'd kept my money. Then I saw Iron Maiden in concert the following year and Bruce Dickinson sounded just like off the album. That guy has the strongest/best voice in metal and probably beyond. Maybe he was lip-synching. He was probably lip-synching.

Man, i hope y'all dont change your beloved aussie accents too much!
I remember us laughing at the song when it came out because it was outrageously funny. It was an exaggeration of a familiar reality. The movie "Valley Girl" with Nick Cage came out around the same time... the dad was the coolest one in the movie
"Dancing Fool" the Zappa song that came out during the disco craze, is the only other Zappa I can recall getting regular radio play, ever?

Amen on the hypocrisy, but I love that One Size Fits All album., R&R genius.ripper5 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 6:27 amThe man was a musical genius and he stood tall for freedom of expression. That being said, he was too hypocritical about getting high for someone who smoked cigarettes like a chimney, imo. His music is so acid drenched good at times, it's hard to believe he was such a prude.
