My understanding is...
Ukraine has been part of Russia for most of last 400-500 years.
When the armistice was signed, US agreed not to advance NATO.
US has been advancing NATO ever since.
US funded and equipped neo-nazis to overthrow Ukrainian government...
...so that we can expand NATO some more.
And Russia is just reacting to that aggression.
Would be like when US went too far in Korea, and then China's reaction.
