I'm Trying To Find The Right Home For This. Are you a USC Graduate???
I have a very, very old something I want to find the right home for.
I want to try and get it to a USC Graduate as I'm sure they would appreciate the most. I believe that is where it belongs.
IF you're a USC Grad and are interested, maybe you can provide proof of your USC status? Diploma, etc...and you can have it.
It's nothing large or gaudy, just a very nice and very old collectable piece. It's collectable by itself. The USC connection is value added.
I've had it for decades, literally.
It needs to go to a nice home.
I have many good pictures of it ready to show. I don't want to show the pictures until I can get a USC Grad interested in it.
I'm posting here first. IF I can't find anyone in a reasonable period of time, I will make it available elsewhere.
Thank you for your time and consideration regarding this matter!

can you date it?
can you date it?

Hi Ben!
No, I don't know the date of manufacture. There is a date on the object but it is the date of the founding of USC "1880".
I contacted USC directly some time ago and I never got a response.
I do thank you for your suggestion, Ben...it's a good one!
Add Edit: It does have some stamping on the back....like what looks likes number stamps and they 3 symbols (like what old silver and gold objects have to show where and when it was produced). I can't make any of it out.
Add Edit: I just remembered I have Microscopes!
Thanks, man!,

I did just try to get some images of the markings on the back.
What I think are numbers don't look like anything I can make anything out of...they look more like numbers with the naked eye than with the camera or microscope camera.
The symbols are clearer but I can't make anything out of them, either....except the last one looks like a bird on a perch to my mind...
This is a picture I took a long time ago, when I first contacted USC, where the stamping is.
This is that area under the microscope. Flipping the images over (rotate 180°) may be helpful because I am not really sure what direction they're supposed to be read...
Symbols first...(I did just lightly clean the area with a Q-Tip and Isopropyl Alcohol - I don't want to remove any of the patina.).
Then what I think are numbers. The "8" seems easy to recognize. The rest?!?!
This stamping is recessed so it's not like they got rubbed off
Regards,
WHAB

Hello friend!
Yes, it is a Frat Paddle. A Frat Paddle for tiny folk!
It is a letter opener.
I didn't want to say it is a letter opener because I didn't want a letter opener collector to get it. I want a USC Grad to get it, someone with a direct connection to it to own it and appreciate it.
It's a neat little piece.
4.55 inches total length. Width shown in previous image.
And, yes, those symbols might refer to Greek Life. Great thought!
I think they are Makers Marks, like what's used on Silver and Gold pieces. However, I did a pretty thorough search for Copper Makers Marks last night and I was not successful, to say the least.
Thank you for your contribution to the discussion, my friend!

Just a thought...
If you do not find a grad, maybe the university has a school historical society?...possibly they have somewhere to display it with other items of historical significance...or maybe you could get info aboot the item from them.
