Dog whistle : illegal votes

Post by smokebreaks »

Well, the laws here in my state are specific to make it harder to cast a ballot and all at the republican agenda.

Paul Weyrich, the Coors family and the John Birch people specifically.

All the above already have ID. Students have ID to get into school. Elderly have ID to obtain their earned benefits. Working poor had to have ID to get job.

So if requiring a voter id is "jim crow", it is because people of color are too ____________ to obtain a government form of id.
Strawman argument. The argument is all voter suppression through things from gerrymandering to all the other Jim Crow laws, not jes Voter ID, the least. Strawman fallacy.

Historic proof of Voter Suppression against POC is why we have, in my lifetime:

The book "Black like Me"
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Like_Me

The
Civil Rights Act of 1964
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_R ... ct_of_1964

The
Voting Rights Act of 1965
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voting_ ... ct_of_1965

.. that is until
In 2013, the Roberts Court removed the requirement established by the Voting Rights Act that Southern states needed Federal approval for changes in voting policies. Several states immediately made changes in their laws restricting voting access
Which leads to openly white supremacist politicians writing Jim Crow laws again,
.. which Americans of all color with the help of mail-in ballots negated some of this white supremacist voter suppression.

Which led to Biden's victory and Trump's loss.

Which led to more trumpian dog whistling, Illegal votes = black votes. Which led to the big lie, which led to the January 6th, to now with more Jim Crow laws wrapped up as voter integrity. Which led to denial of Jim Crow and here we are.

Let anybody who is register to vote, vote.
Kinda like Tuco saying "When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk"

Dog whistle : illegal votes

my question wasn't about American History.

It was specific to showing an ID and how that is racial suppression.

First of all, to the best of my memory, voter id laws were more to curb non citizen votes due to open border policies to the south.
It wasn't a black thing until Stacey Abrams lost her run for governor of Georgia. Most of the illegal immigrants aren't white, so your whistling
at the wrong dogs.
It certainly isn't targeting non white americans but it is targeting non white immigrants. Which is political, but not racial.

I can see where you get your mindset, wedges are being driven between everybody these days. Race, Relig, Political party, gender, sexuality. We've all been categorized and pigeon holed and we didn't do it to ourselves.
Your'e old enough to remember. When we graduated in the 70s, it was a completely different atmosphere. it pretty much went like that until about the turn of the century, then things got weird, and everybody hates everybody again. I don't think it's so much has changed, except the media seems to magnify the events that will push our buttons and damper the events that quell.

I thought your response was just petulant.

Couldn't left a snarky reply:
As the rolling stones said
"You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, well, you might find
You get what you need"

But I came across this video

Maybe I'm wrong that is truely the framework you were building on. Sorry I'm stuck in my framework.

It might explain the root of the divisions feed different premises
