The argument is that Trump did this for political gain. If that is true, it's not a very smart move politically. In the 2016 election cycle, every poll of how each democrat candidate would do vs Trump, Bernie was at the top every time and was the only candidate projected to beat Trump in every poll. Trump did indeed edge out Clinton in the election, as some of those polls had accurately forecasted. In the 2020 election cycle, Bernie again tops every poll on how each candidate would fare against Trump, and he beats him substantially every time. By knocking out Biden, who's political stance closely aligns with Clinton's, it would foreseeably help ensure the nomination going to Bernie...who by every indication would whoop Trump's ass.

No as I said often, Trumps is an idiot. It was a stupid impeachable move that he was warned it would be wrong to do again as president, and he did it again anyway.
