funny thing is ive been growing the crocus sativus for the past 5 years in the back garden not thinking to harvest the stigmas and neglected them for years and years even though they naturalize really well in england, they use to grow it back in the days in UK...
wanted to try some in pilau and other rice dishes, really perfumes the rice and has lots of health benefits too, i might make a cup of tea and put one or two strands ( stigma) into it, apparently its really beneficial...

i have saffron growing. they bloom in the late fall
early winter. you get 3-4 per flower. the flavor is
very intense when fresh. pretty purple flower also.

Be careful with using it, it's quite potent. I once made a batch of risotto milanese and didn't carefully measure the saffron, put too much in, and the result wasn't good.
