Well, it *looks* nice--like good fresh made hash if fact. Approximately how much can be saved out from say a pound of OK trim shake?

you know i completely failed to even think of weighing it before i started,
i can however give a very accurate volume by measuring the box it filled nearly to the top

and compare that to what i end up with here after its dried

Glad to see you smoking on something good.

I disagree with your drying method, I don't press till about a week after out of water, I even chop up the clumps like a line of coke, but some of my patties are 10x the size you've shown.

i should mention
nothing is pressed yet

because there is no bag with the screen

you can fold em up and stick them in the freezer
after a quick set on a towel to wick of most of the moisture after pulling from the apparatus

i get most everything cleaned up and put away

then i start grabbing the frozen screens out and the extract just falls off the screen
in whatever shape it was in when it frozen

those pics are just a few minutes after i got each out

given the life this bag of trim lived getting to me
hard to think i could make it worse

what would you do different?

these are the screen i selected
their variation in markings simply represents
different times over the years i worked on this project
4 screen selected.jpg
i start by pouring off the top of the water
get it down to a couple of gallons
as in my process
youre adding water back in a little bit at nearly each stage
theres the stuff
6 there it is.jpg
snap that assembly on a clean empty bucket
and your off
5 about ready.jpg

ok
you start with your coarsest screen
you place it over the bottom half of the assembly
and them you press the top half into it
tight, but not to tight
they friction fit together nicely

sorry no pictures of this critical bit
working alone and its two handed

now, there is a trick here that critical
its easy to make that screen at tight and flat as a drum this way
but if you do, the material will settle across it and clog it
the water wont drain

this is where the bubblemans bags are genius without even knowing it
and a guy using this buckets has some work cut out for him
and here is where an overlap of 3 cm in those buckets fitting together pays off

what you need to do
is make sure that when those two parts are fix together tightly
that the screen has as pronounced a droop in it as possible

what i do is first
press the ring bucket [bottomless upper section] down until it just begins to stick
then keeping downward pressure on it
i reach in with the other hand and gently
push it down
concentrating on pulling as much screen as possible through the friction as possible
while still maintaining it trapped all around

concentrate on the 4 points of the screen which have the shortest distance to the center
these are each 45 degrees away from the corners
once ive pulled each of these to the point that only a fraction of an inch still show outside the assembly
i press in the center of the screen
you want the droops bottom to have a definite spot and close to the center
then maintaining pressure on it
you press the ring bucket down good
i do this with a forearm layed across it

and apologizes for the first timer
this process is far easier the with the finer screen youll use later
but youll be learning with the coarsest
which makes it difficult
mabe practice a few times with one of the others

got it?
your ready to pour!

disaster!

heh,
this happened the first time i ever did this,
so long ago i forgot

i forgot to drill some holes for air to escape the bucket your pouring into
so instead of the screen drooping nicely
it started to balloon upwards as i poured
the air being displaced needing to go somewhere

sigh

ok,
this is a good chance to demonstrate how you deal
with incidents of your trapped screen pulling all the way through
during a pour, should you not have gotten a proper seal of it
and how to remedy

pull the assembly apart
9 fuck up a.jpg
10 fuck up b.jpg
wash off the screen you were using in the bucket
12 fu remedy b.jpg
13 fu remedy c.jpg
pour all your water into one bucket and rinse the other buckets sides and bottom, as well as the assembly, to get all the particulates into one buckets water
11 fu remedy a.jpg
after that, go drill those air holes
[ while i was at it, i cut out more of that 5 gallon lid so it wasnt in the path of the draining water ]

4 half inch holes around the rim will do it
and all back together...
