After enjoying the fruits of your labors, we all need a place to chill. This is that place. Totally senseless irrelevant banter encouraged.

AR-15 from a Cutting Board
]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3chSzLxPuzU

I test fire my AR-15 rifle with a lower receiver that I milled from a blue polyethylene cutting board, as detailed here:

it took me a while to figure out the support material
check out these mechanisms

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xaj9jx7 ... ure=relmfu" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

they would be unbuildable without many more parts and cost a thousand times more to make

was refering to a filler substance the machine "prints" into all the places that need to be voids. or air space, in the final product when its mechanism works.

i guess they call it support material because, its supporting the final products actual material, in the places they come together during the process of laying up the items complex.

so, after its done being printed. the moving parts are locked together because of this support material filling all the gaps between parts which need to move past each other, until they use the water jets to disolve and wash it out.

yep it makes sense now, that was my brother was saying he studied engineering at university and he was saying there is no way that wrench could have been made without support material and i was telling him the machine does it all, even he is amazed by this machine..

my brother was baffled by it LOL he was saying they make the cogs seperatley and then join them manually using there hands, i was saying NO the machine does it all, builds it from the ground up, but he just wasn't having it, and i guess the machine cant make the inside of a car engine can it, even in plastic ??

i thought the same think a couple years ago when someone told me of a printer cranking out moving mechanisms

i cant think of a single reason it can make a working model of a working engine,
it might need to include some access holes for washing out the support material that wouldnt be part of an actual engine but...

heh,

you know those cutaway picktures of engines and transmissions?

this thing could actually build them AS cutaways... no cutting required
