Post by bentech »

if you had to start up another, youd buy more worms i bet?

i hear about folks doing the vermi having issues with local temperatures during the summer and making sure their worms dont get to hot,

have you had any incidents of the worms wanting to bolt on you?

if i start another i will do it on 4th tray.
i would split the worms from that tray.
then start another bin with 1/2 the worms
and there bedding for faster start. i am sure
there's over 6lb. of worms in there now.

i live in a cold state so no heat problems.

yes when barometer drops worms come to
the top of the bin.
thanks for looking :tonka:

ya not to bad feed the 4 corners then the middle
and add more bedding. then do it again till next
tray. has taken longer than i thought. but as it get's
warmer they will go faster and egg's hatch faster.
so early spring when a shitload off eggs hatch will
go quicker.also as i am adding tray's there's more
worms than when i had 1-2 trays. when 4th-5th
trays are on there and going will be 9-12 lbs of
worms. they eat there weight every day so will
have enough castings to use. thanks for looking :tonka:

well i harvested castings today.
1st we have the tray being emptied.
11worms.jpg
then we have it in a bucket.
12 worms.jpg
i got a little over 1/2 a 5 gal bucket out of
the bottom tray. i did not have it as full
as my later tray's. so next tray's will prob
be a full 5 gal bucket. sure took a while to
start but there eating a lot faster now since
it's spring and a lot more worms.
thanks for looking :tonka:

Very Cool, a couple gallons of castings .. more to come .. I’m envious, i have lots of earthworms in my outdoor compost bins but cant separate the castings.

So the lime is ok for the worms? I ask cause when I amend compost in the veggie garden I always include some of the worms but also add lots of dolomite for the calcium. I’ve wondered if that was good or bad for the lil guys.
