...any of you grow Bonsai...?

I’ve been digging up natives and air layering random trees.....nothing I’m proud enough to post pics of yet.

Bonsai Growers..?

i had one for a couple of years

not enough time to get into the root or foliage pruning

i think that they are amazing when cared for decades and longer...

Bonsai Growers..?

i grew 2 redwoods for about 10 years.
were about a foot tall. planted them by
my dads gravestone. 2 years later power co.
cut all the trees down. i did get some more
seeds a few years ago. i should plant a few.

now here is a way to make good money from
bonsai. go to a you cut xmas tree farm. find
the runts. say 1' 2' tall but with a huge stump.
pay for the tree and dig it up. then get a nice
ceramic planter pot. transplant tree into it.
give it a year to get used to it's new home.
then sell for big bucks. :smoke:

I have a few Dawn Redwoods and a Bald Cypress that are taking up a bunch of space, all between 5-7 feet tall.....I just chopped one back and gave it a new apex...if this works I’m going to do the same to all of them and do a group planting....this will take years.

I’ve got a few different junipers going, a few olives, a boxwood....and I’ve air layered a bunch trees with nice bends in the wood like an old strawberry tree.......I’ve dug up a few wild plums and an oak also.

My goal is to make two or three keepers that I’ll have for the rest of my life.

ran across a natural bonsai on the property i stay at in colorado years ago

actually its the remains of one

an aspen tree dead as a doornail
no bark at all
the wood all gone to grey
but its was only about 8 fet tall

was growing in what i presume to be very shallow soild on a ledge up on a cliff

tappered from about 10 inches in diameter at its base to a gracefully pointed top in 8 feet

curious how long it lived and how long it had been dead
