Sometimes adding two things together it's convoluted.
Consider:

Let V={(x,y,z)R3:x−y=z}
and W={(x,y,z)R:x+z=2y}W={(x,y,z)R3:x+z=2y} subspaces of R3

Show that V+W=R+W=R3. Also check if the sum is direct, V⊕W=¥⊕W=R3
Where R is the set of Reals
Where R3 is the set of reals cubed
