I never use iodine before. Except the water purification iodine tablets.
Sounds like a prudent idea...

Oh snap...sometimes the simplest things make me feel so dumb. I knew you would be picking up provisions along the way...I knew you could replace gear along the way if needed...but it never dawned on me that you could forgo gear when packing, with plans to pick it up during the trip. Nice.Intrinsic wrote:the plan is to buy a tourist shirt on the way...
I'm guessing, nothing that will be carried...that shit is heavy.ripper5 wrote:I'm wondering, seems like the planned rations are mostly dry, light, vagan? Will you aquire the fresh stuff (fruits, veggies, meats) along the way?
Best I've ever done for "carry it all on your back" hiking was dehydrated fruit (usually in a trail mix), freeze dried veggies in "just add water" meals, and jerky. If you're lucky, maybe an apple or two, and some minimal fishing equipment.

You'll see in the quipment list I have that blue insulated foam cooler. Its for the cheese, mayo and any fresh thing in town I may get. It small so not much. Those little luxuries.
And of course while in town mac out on burgers, bananas, broccoli, pizzas, beer... mainly the grease Burgers tho. Maybe carry something nice for the first couple meals.

Lunch is my big protein fix. Meat is efficient.
Summer sausage, crackers, cheese
Or chicken/salmon salad, crackers, cheese
or peanut butter, crackers, chocolate.

Maps drying
Cost is about 26 cents a map, printed on both sides. Total cost $17 - $25 depending on how many mistakes i make and print-overs. such a deal.
I print my own maps using digitized US Geological Survey Topo maps and National Geographical software. Then spray coat 'em with this:
It doesn't make 'em exactly waterproof, but keeps the ink from smearing when wet.Cost is about 26 cents a map, printed on both sides. Total cost $17 - $25 depending on how many mistakes i make and print-overs. such a deal.

But I do carry all the digitalize jpgs on the phone just in case.
Yeah I too got hunreds of 7.5 and 15' quads paper Maps from all over the West,. when USGS stop selling the paper maps, I freaked out a little. im in a much better place now that I have half the country in digitalized USGS topos. And a wide paper printer.
I print at 7.5 resolution except for overview Maps,
