Gimme The Good Earth 4.1

After enjoying the fruits of your labors, we all need a place to chill. This is that place. Totally senseless irrelevant banter encouraged.

Redundancy. Pros you have a backup, security. Cons extra weight, extra volume.

To help optimize those 2 parameters I use a jump box. It contained some of my backups: extra reading glasses sunglasses pills potions spoon Fork tent stake headlamp phone lithium batteries solar panel cables camera charger shorts socks ... little things that'll be hard to replace on the trail. Additionally repair items,, tape glue buckles sewing stuff webbing cord tools,, then I would mail it onto the next supply point and then keep LeapFroging it up. There was an Xtra cost for mailing tho. And not all supply points had a post office, and on this last trip the post office lost my jump box (and supply box) for Supply 1 and I didn't see it till California on supply 4.

But to the question what I carried for redundancy as near as I can recollect, I had extra sunglasses and reading glasses. Usb charging cable for the solar panel. And then my clean dry camp socks could always be used as extra hiking socks too. Camp shoes for boot redundancy.

Camp shoes for boot redundancy.

this ive thought of as well
never had it happen but boots blowing out can really foul up the works and their mighty hard to repair

what boots do you hike in?
and what shoes were your backup?

not the place to skimp on quality

way way back a troop leader of a week long hike in yosemite forgot to put his boots on at the trailhead and didnt think of it till hours laters and long past being able to correct it

got distracted getting all us boys going

he managed the week in his tennis shoes
they didnt even have laces
slip on type

often wondered if he thought to baby them through the week
my guess is that he did

if memory serves they were vans
remarkable good shoes

im good in bare feet and often make it a practice
but never for a week

ah the questions life leaves us with

My current boots are a mid-weight,,half shank,, Keens, with good drainage for creeks crossings. But I hiked in everything from moccasins with rubber soles to 5 lb vasque Whitneyll mountaineering full shank boot. Yeah I've gone over a week in tennis shoes too because I forgot my boots .... make it do or do without . Barefoot .. not for me.
