Aboot 50 per week...that's a pretty good clip, especially if you have a lot of elevation change.Intrinsic wrote:Mileage? not too far. I'm old and slow and I take a lot of half days, it's a party hike not a marathon.Butcher Bob wrote:What's the approximate milage of the trip?
What type of footware are you choosing to use?
I reckon about 800 miles.
I have some new Keens boots, same type as last time, I know the brand fits me well, despite the soles did wear down pretty dang good. We'll see.
It is a good question, I'll have to see about what I can do for replacement along the way. Maybe figure out how to have my current boots, which are used but still in reasonable shape, sent for the last month or so, jes in case.
Pic of boot wear and tear last time, and for the newbies here who haven't seen the last hike

I'm betting the next pair will be better. Knock on wood.
Yeah, that's what I was wondering aboot...wear & tear on light weight soles.
As a teen we used to wear them heavy soled waffle stompers...soles like tire rubber. They stood up well to wear, but they were heavy as fuk. Got used to wearing sneakers in the woods...much lighter. Works fine in MI because much of the ground is peat...very little rock.
Looking forward to your journal.

I quickly learned that tennies worked great for me on all the long hikes but it always pays to have a sewing awl and heavy filament

I've smoked about a little more than an ounce and a half in the past stuck at home year. That's getting high once or twice a day most days too. Shit's strong if you know what to get.
<edit> That's an impressive itinerary, I'm familiar with parts of the northern half or so and it's pretty spectacular.

Vasque Sundowners were my go-to until they moved production from Italy to China. I've got Salomons now but they might be iffy on a 800 mi. trek.

I Will forget it, extra weight. But that did reminds me I still have to put some liquid soap in the Fix-It kit.
