I like the hidden dove-tails to eliminate the problem of shearing forces...something a simple scarf joint doesn't adequately address.

its always amazed me that wooden ship builders get away with them in long board planks that then get torqued and twisted into position for mount to the ships ribs.

course theirs are super high angle and they get mabe 6inches of glued surface
when we do baseboard and shoe ours are only 45s
about the only place i use scarfs
