It's due mainly to corporate desires to suppress true innovation rather than face real competition they can't control.
Got to maintain the status quo.
What we don't know is whether the secret space program can compete with, or neutralize, this new technology.
It could also be because the break away civilization has steered our research in the wrong direction. Relativity is looking like a red herring. Einstein was a cabalist.
