Gimme the Good Earth III

After enjoying the fruits of your labors, we all need a place to chill. This is that place. Totally senseless irrelevant banter encouraged.

Gimme the Good Earth III

"I wish to speak a word for Nature, for absolute Freedom and Wildness, as contrasted with a freedom and culture merely civil,-to regard man as an inhabitant, or a part and parcel of Nature, rather than a member of society. I wish to make an extreme statement, if so I may make an emphatic one, for there are enough champions of civilization: the minister and the school committee and every one of you will take care of that."
-- excerpt from 'Walking' by Henry David Thoreau.

'nuff said.

Time yet another walkabout for this old dog. So here is my journal, tho the trip still in the planning phase .. I'm knee deep in maps and loving it.

Why? If you hafta ask then the above Thoreau's words fell on deaf ears.
Alrighty .. don't take offense ya'll urbinite couch potatoes. Sheesh. Look at it this way; Why not? Better then going to work and paying taxes eh?

How: Be irresponsible.
When: June 20th step off date (tentatively), ending middle of September (knock on wood)
Where: Burney Mountain to Yosemite Valley.
Notice the winding around Lassen Volcanic National Park, I want to see everything!
(don't know why the map pic came out poor quality when uploaded.)
Overview.JPG

The supplies: Some of the food I'm sending in the 8 supply boxes. Plus bread. Cheese, meat and fresh fruit/veggies to be bought in the towns/resorts along the way.
Other resupplies are, maps, stove fuel, soap, razors, toothpaste, bug juice, sunscreeen, and TP

I have one of the new fangle butane-mix cartridge Stoves; Snow Peak. 2.5 ounces. last time i went out, i notice they are more plentiful then white gas. so going with the times ...

how u gonna carry all that ?
you got a donkey?
I was gonna use a llama, but instead a couple of mexicans will do it far cheaper.

Naw, i am breaking the supplies up into 8 drops. 6 will be to small post offices sent general delivery to my self. a service US post office provides here, maybe in the UK too. i already have a written relationship with the postmasters so they know i'm coming.
the other two are resorts that hare willing to hold a packages for me The one in Lassen (Drakesbad ranch) will hold for free, real interesting guy to talk to. very hiker friendly place. the other is Kennedy meadow resort at Sonora pass.

but ... that still is about 20- 30 pounds in supplies for every stretch! in addition to the 25 pounds of equipment. Yep, it's hell getting old. plus the any fresh food i can carry out .. i try not to worry about it.

My niece (13 years) is helping organize the mailings for me, smart as they come.. she read the book 'Wild" and has the thru-hiking itch now; that i am encouraging to the horror of her mom.

DAMN! I aint left yet. tonight i was suppose to on burney mountain, but no.

Yesterday my ride called and said him and his daughter have the some nasty stomach flu. fortuitous he had taken time off work for me as it was. but maybe tomorrow, he feels better today and went t work (he's the responsible one).

but now old Murphy's law kicking in; checking at the last minute to make sure that my credit card is paid up in full as not receive bills in mail while i'm gone
BANG!!!
My credit card showed with over a 1000$ fraudulent charges to my account. and some jerkwad also put in a change of address so i won't get by bill statement in the mail. BUt i manage my credit card on line so to be updated. the thing is a never use the card, emergency only thing. , but used it quite bit this two months supply my self for the trip
Murphy's law
i canceled the card , was promised the fradulent charges are rescinded, yet i my account is active when i log on, and charges still threre. WTF!

gawddamm it. I don't want to leave till i'm assured this is resolved. fuckity fuck.

if my ride didn't delay a day i would have missed this. a blessing in disguises?

/end rant
