Gimme the Good Earth III

After enjoying the fruits of your labors, we all need a place to chill. This is that place. Totally senseless irrelevant banter encouraged.

Into Sierra City and my 6th re-supply.
Good times in Sierra City, The local grill had a one pound burger called the gut-buster served with hand breaded onion rigs, Holy shit it was good! Almost every PCT hiker orders one. A decent snack for hungry hungry hikers.

I've really been in Jefferson State, not California.
SierraCity 09.JPG
A treat, real live music, The Public String Band. Folk and blue grass, they jammed tight and played all the right songs. Damn good times.
SierraCity 10.JPG
The Red Moose café.

Spent the night at the local church's yard for free ..
SierraCity 12.JPG
with two completely awesome hikers, Ann and Die-hard. Thru hiking to Canada. Die-hard on the right is British med student taking time off before her residency. Both soloing but hooked up while on the trail, Behind schedule yet full of smiles. I luv 'em both!
SierraCity 13.JPG
An unexpected treat for me is the truly awesome people I meet the trail.

Brief respite into civilization was fun.
Sister-in-law sent some cookies the kids bake. Sweet, it's nice being though of.
With no pay phones and my ATT connection worthless, had to borrow Die Hard's Verison phone to check in with my bro, let him know I'm here and OK and mail the next supply package.
Still no court date yet for the fucking bear canister. Sheesh it's been 30 days and nothing.
Ben, you asked if there was hot spots, well Sierra City's store had one fwiw. first one i noticed. tho it didn't do me any good.

Packing it up.
Snowbank Spr 00.JPG
The next 4 days the trail stayed up high on the ridge. Blue skies, inspiring views, cold spring water and a beautiful wilderness trail. I'm a happy camper.

After walking up a small hill for views, also got a cell phone connection, probably from Truckee town. checked in with my bro and I have that bear cannister court date 21 days from now. Fuck. My initial calculation gives me 10 days to Echo summit (hwy 50), best place to leave and come back. I can stretch it out to 14 days or more giving me a week to comfortably hitchhike to Reading or at least get to Sac and then the Amtrack with my senior discount.
Damn I was expecting it, but a court date is always a kick in the nuts. With a little luck tho I'll only lose 6-8 days off the trail maybe more, fuking pigs.

Ahh well, next day the views soothed my soul. And got on with really matters, takin care of business.
