Gimme the Good Earth III
Down Into Slide Canyon, and Finger Peaks
Thank gawd for weed and the Kindle. Rain hard till noon. Broke briefly, just enough to spread out my gear out before it started again … back in the tent. Next mourning still cloudy and hit the Rain soaked covered trail.

Climbed back up above timberline, heading for Burro Pass.
Almost broke out the old solar panel Sure made for spectacular scenery and pics. Finger Peaks But the clouds were only on a brief coffee break.
Started to break up.
Which prometed me to start singing loudly: Break on through to the blue sky. Sung to The Doors' Break On Through (To The Other Side).Almost broke out the old solar panel Sure made for spectacular scenery and pics. Finger Peaks But the clouds were only on a brief coffee break.

Matterhorn Peak.
So down the trail into Matterhorn Canyon and just as it starts to sprinkle …
Burro Pass. The low saddle on the right. Matterhorn peak looming out view to the left.
Looking back down at a couple of unnamed ponds.
Sawtooth ridge and Matterhorn Peak on the right.
Closer view of Finger Peaks.
Matterhorn Peak from the pass
Matterhorn Peak to right, the low saddle is suppose to be my next pass, start of my big cross country route.
A pulled back view. Pass to the left now.
Alas, because of the storm and likely snow tonight. I opted to be prudent and the chicken shit I am, I wussed out and opted to take the trails out. Shit happens. So down the trail into Matterhorn Canyon and just as it starts to sprinkle …

Down Matterhorn Canyon
Next day the rain at least let me pack up before starting in again. Break on the trail. Then waves and waves of rain, cold cold rain, Arrived at Virginia Lake soaked to the bone, shivering (being aware of the first signs of hypothermia). Crawled in the tent and sleeping bag.
Had to set the tent up in the rain, setting up in the rain Sucks!! Everything getting a little wetter and no chance to dry out.Next day the rain at least let me pack up before starting in again. As soon as the rain broke just a little I was out and built my first Campfire of the trip.
Damn I'm goood!
Once the fire gets going, pile more wet wood around to dry, Then smoke a bowl and get warm n toasty . Next start drying out equipment, cooking dinner, kicking back in between showers. Suddenly it's a sweet time, jes beautiful. Lows n highs yanno.
Preformed yet another miracle and got a fire going with sopping wet wood and numb frozen hands, shivering the whole time.Damn I'm goood!

Naw that's the soaked wood lying in the ground left by horse Packers earlier in the season. The wood I used to start the fire is from underneath old downed trees where it stays dry for quite a while. and once the fire gets hot I can use progressively wetter and wetter wood.
