I'm doing some sitting at a siblings place and have noticed the dogs here know their owner are expected a good couple minutes before they pull up in the drive

My cats know my truck coming down the road just as many dogs I have had hear me coming by the sound of my engine etc.

Used to have a squirrel I rescued sat in my pocket would meet me at the door everyday when I got home from work.

Yeah iv'e seen that too, usually i think is just thier sensitive hearing to the unique sounds different car engines make. but even without a vehicle, the animals would know. it is eerie at times, but dogs with their nose, they see the world different then you or I.
