The salinity shouldn't be a problem, but the hot weather might be.
I just did a quick search, and apparently there are folks doing OK with it in Texas:
Somebody recommends Mary Washington, Jersey Giant and Purple Passion strains.

From what I remember of my mum growing it, it should have frost in the winter to do well the next season, but I may be wrong about that.

ok well i needed that jersey giant f1 hybrids, cant fond a company in UK that sells the SEEDS, found a oneline website based in USA reimerseeds.com. they sell 12 seeds for under $4 per pack, but i need 1.2 kilo worth of asparagus seeds. so i need to find the wholesales in states who sell them to companies like remierseeds so this way i can buy them cheaper... so anyone know any wholesale seed vendors in USA who sell bulk jersey giant f1 hybrid seeds ??

I'd like to buy lots of Thyme seeds. How much do they sell for per pound? And if you have any grown can I get them in salad bags?

Ok enough kidding around. Lets be serious about this. I think Israel has drained the Red Sea and built lots of de-salination plants. They seem to have ways to turn deserts into flowering oases. So yes its possible. If you ever watch any survival shows you can learn to build your own simple de-salinization plant in your bathroom or kitchen.

Basement if you have a drain hole.

Oh shit I think I fucked up. Ok. uh remember kids before trying to build any de-sanlinization plants in the basements of your parents house to consult your local housing ordinances and keep a pair of high kneed rubber wading boots handy.

and watch out for drowned dead zombie cats getting caught up in the wireing.
