Anybody ever grown wheat ?

Post by twilson »

Was just wondering why it isn't very popular in home gardens. Too little yield ? Too much work ?
If Muley can scruff along i can too.

not sure
ive been meaning to grow ¨ẃheat berrys¨ which i believe is what you sprout to get wheat grass
but never have...

if i were to grow a grain to maturity id go with an ancient grain like kamut or chia or teff

much more nutritious and your seeds will grow the actual plant to boot!

lot of work cleaning then drying and grinding.
are no flour mills anymore for public.
in garden you grow winter rye as a cover crop.
then in the spring till it in.

Could you make the kinds of things you make with wheat out of those grains ? You know like bread, pie crust, muffins and stuff.

You think you could buy something like a small electric mill just for milling your own crop ?

yes there are home grain mills.
you need to grow harvest dechaff the wheat then dry.
then run thru a mill to make flour. could use a mortor and petsil
but a lot of work to that.

you can buy a pitcher/blade combo expressly for grinding grain into flower for
you high powered blender

but a simple electric grinder runs about a hundred dollars
which is more affordable although their loud as hell when running

Our was it just his cool avatar brainwashing me?
Just because I can't spell misanthrope doesn't mean I'm completely stupid.
