CO2 Extraction
so from what i gather from all that,
plus the independant reading its driven me too
co2 when under control, strips off a much more select section of solvent disolvables found in the plant, than butane does.
butane take a much wider swath of the stuff.
so,
once youve got co2 under control for the process,
you have to dial it in, pick what you want. mabe run it again and again at different settings to get all of what you want
where butane will get it all the first time through?
in any case,
co2 is obviously the playground for the idle rich
or a rogue chemist or machinist
came across earwax and honeycomb just this year
amazing stuff
all this talk about the taste of the smoke was lost on me until this showed up
ive got alot of questions
but the endeavor is so complicated
i wouldnt even bother

CO2 Extraction
so tell us...
what the hell are they extracting from the oil
with the repeated heating and exposure to vacuum?
does butane really behind something in solution in the oil?
or is this just a mechanical manipulation of the cannaboids?

I attempted an extraction when the temperature was a constant -20 c and it simply would not work. At that temperature the gas can not exit the canister except by pouring and then assuming you can safely do that you still need to warm it for separation. Then presumably cool it again if you want to reclaim it for storage. It could probably be done though. Certainly for less than 70,000.bentech wrote:When butane is dropped below freezing, the container holding it can be opened and the liquid can be viewed inside. Much less volatile than people think.
That mention of nitrogen was interesting though.

That's what I'm saying, fuck the earwax, honeycomb, and budder.....sap and shards is where it's at.
Getting out of the shower to take a shit is like getting out of your car to order at the drive-thru.

The butane is bein "purged"....very important not to disturb the oil, cuz that reduces the quality somehow. Main evap is done outdoors, then a hot water bath (settin yer pan in a bigger pan of hot water). At this point the oil should be able to be scraped into a puddle that kin then be vac'd & purged, the final removal of any butane.bentech wrote:so tell us...

As to the quality you git...
...earwax, honeycomb, & budder are inferior products. Yer aimin fer sap as clear as you kin git it...no bubbles. The harder you kin git it the better, "shatter" is the top...solid sap. Cloudiness of any type is a sign that somethin is wrong.Sun wrote:That's what I'm saying, fuck the earwax, honeycomb, and budder.....sap and shards is where it's at.

never heard the term sap before,
but i get what your saying...
but this still begs the question,
if those innitial products are crap,
why does it smoke so well???
when you first run the butane, it boils off and leaves behind an oil that doesnt have any visible bubbles in it...
the butane at that point is gone, right?
it cant exist at room temperature and one atmosphere
whats really going on in this process...
ive yet to find a reasonable explaination

That's a comparative statement.bentech wrote:never heard the term sap before,

Now....compare that budder or wax to a quality sap.
Don't git me wrong...plenty of folks like any form, but fer the hardcore oilers, sap in the only thing.
No, the butane is not all gone at that point. Like oxygen in water, a lil encouragement is needed to remove ALL the butane....it gits trapped & needs to be released.when you first run the butane, it boils off and leaves behind an oil that doesnt have any visible bubbles in it...

what is the temperature at which butane combusts?

I usually add about 1 oz of Isopropyl alcohol or ethanol if it is available and cook it off to get rid of any residual butane, then a small amount of water and cook it off to get rid of any residual alcohol.
