First spider mites in 10 years of growing
Well, I guess I should be grateful, I havent gotten them until now.
Just want to say, I dont know howthey could have gotten into my room, unless the soil purchased for my moms was infested, thank you Scotts.
I first noticed a freckling of tiny white spots on the leaves when I moved the mom into the flower cabinet after taking some cuttings, she seemed less vibrant than usual, so I decided to start a fresh one. Once under the big light I noticed the specs
My microscope revealed the perfectly round eggs and I noticed one scurry by.
Ive taken some cigs and soap and will spray well, then tomorrow spray well again, and then in two days, and then every 3 days for a week or so.
I hope I can get rid of them so I can save the strain, I just got back into rythm with my grows because I moved.
All suggestions welcome.

They're UTTER BASTARDS is my advice.
They seem to be resistant to practically everything that's legal, decent, honest and safe.
I've tried tobacco/soap sprays, permethrin sprays and smoke bombs, neem oil sprays, chilli pepper spray, insecticidal soap and probably a few things I've forgotten, too.
They all keep the numbers down, but have never got rid of them completely. I think the neem oil was probably the most successful, but it smells terrible, and left a sticky residue on the grow-tent floor (but not, oddly, on the plants).
I'd suggest spraying with whatever you've got every couple of days for at least two weeks, and then check every couple of days for another month!
If you don't mind living with a few of them, then predatory mites seem to be a good way of keeping them in check. Hashstar told me he'd had good results with them a year or two back.
They don't like cold, and they don't like high humidity, so if you can do anything about either of those, it'll help a little.
I've only had mites a couple of times, but once they're in, it's a real bugger to get rid of them.
I've got some Forbid 4F miticide now (e-bay) and if I get them again, I'm just going to take clones, dip them in 4F and BURN everything else!
Unfortunately, you can't use the 4F on anything you're going to eat or smoke, but I'm guessing that the tiny amount a dipped clone will absorb will be insignificant by the time the plant is fully grown.

I eradicated them once, but it was early and they were just cuttings. I dipped them in 1/4 strength Endall every 3 days for 2 weeks ad bombed the room with Dr.Doom.
I tried persimilils once with little success.
I tried vaccuming and that does work but it's very labor intensive.
They are very intelligent, watch when you harvest, they will work together to try and escape the drying plant yet at the same time they will gorge themselve at the cut end of the plant.
I have found a blueberry that is super resistant, I never really get rid of them but they have little impact.
Stevia is something that I am interested in. I grew some this year and bugs seem to hate it.

btw it only takes 4 drops per qt & the effects are quite long-lasting

Like Bloke, I've tried aboot everythin under the sun too. The HotShot NPS and foggers are good knockdown products. I've only bin able to completely eradicate them two ways...completely dunkin parent clones in Kelthane (kills everything eggs juveniles, adults), or startin over from seed. Scrub yer room with bleach water, and scrub yer pots, tools, & such under runnin hot water...then do a bomb jus to make sure.

What kind of with-holding period does it come with - I couldn't see anything in the blurb that detailed how long?Munchy wrote:i'm sticking with Forbid... it seriously kicks mite ass: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORBID-4F-MITIC ... 27bd263de4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

First spider mites in 10 years of growing
that's cool bud.. glad to hear it!
i had recalled seeing something that said it was good for 30 days, and could be used up to 30 days before harvest, but i read something else that said it's only for ornamentals. so i dunno, but i don't use it during flowering anyway. i only use Forbid once during veg, preferably just before they start blooming, and then it lasts easily a couple of months, and any cuttings i take after that treatment, are also good for the whole next veg & bloom cycle, as well as the next gen of cuttings after that usually, and even if placed into another garden with an existing mite infestation, i was told that they remained totally resistant. so i only use it about 2 or 3 times per year during veg only, which seems safe enough.

First spider mites in 10 years of growing
I'm with Bob on this, I tried everything I could get but found the mites coming from my stagreen soil I got at Lowes. The only thing I found was starting over from seed and that way I never got them back from any clones I picked up around here.
Azmax is something that they don't like and it helps kill PM also. It doesn't kill the mites but it makes the mites not like the plant any more.
