soil and hydro side by side

say you wanted to evaluate the simplest way of doing both side by side under a 400
trying to decide which to go with eventually

which way would you pick and how would you set it up?

the flowering space is 4x4 and plenty of vertical space

a seperate cabinet will be feeding it clones

Hang your light vertical in the middle of the space , 2 RDWC one in front of the other and 2 soil filling the space ... have fun bending the plans so they dont touch the light ..

SPOILER ALERT !! .... *DO NOT READ IF YOU WANT TO HAVE FUN WASTING YOUR TIME*

RDWC Wins -Soil Fail .... Been there done that , clone sisters with the same amount of veg time (21 days) , grown side by side , soil vs rdwc , soil plants finished smaller then some of my rdwc side branches .
On the flip side , if you cant keep your water temperature under 68 F you're better off with soil ...
May the Penis be with you .

If you can get the moisture level just right in smart pots you can see some pretty quick vegetation but the dissolved oxygen levels in DWC allow for vegetation pretty much as fast as a plant can grow.

Getting out of the shower to take a shit is like getting out of your car to order at the drive-thru.

Would depend on yer goal.
I like dirt because...
I kin leave town fer longer periods, less worry.
I kin move things around easier.
I kin make mistakes, and my fuk up will be buffer'd better.
I kin git most equipment & materials at regular garden shops.
Flavors & aromas are better.
All by-products (plant material, used soil, nute run-off) kin be composted.
Equipment failure is not as consequential.
And, minus the plants, soil equipment & supplies are more easily justified as legit gardening...harder to imply that with hydro equipment.
...but that's jus me. :)

I agree, soil is low maintenance and deep water is high yeild. Decide which is your priority. I had a nice drip system for my tomatoes and peppers this year.

I heard of one grower of commercial quantities for local dispenseries has after over 10 years of hydro, gone to organic in soil and is getting a better price because most buyers seem to prefer the soil grown bud.
One for the rook

One for the crow

One to rot

and one to grow

I like both, as long as you give the plants a couple or more weeks to clear excess nutrients, they alll taste great.

No, they do not. Soil tastes better, hands down....aromas too. Potency's the same. Hydro gits the yield.

Doin a second run now...organic vs synthetic. Essentially another soil vs hydro. I'll let ya know the results in aboot 3 more months once it's dried, cured, & tested. :toker1:
