put together an inexpensive bucket system, which is working well so far, so I thought I would share.
Find 2 buckets of different height but same diameter.
go to an aquarium store or the tackle shop
get a couple of bubble rings from about 6$ each or other kind of stone for air diffusing.
you also need a 2 head air pump for around 15$
find some flexible tubing to fit the power head.
Get a low flow rate power head for an aquarium filter system
Im using the RIO+ 50 it was 15$
If you can scrounge up the buckets from behind restaurants and delis.
TOTAL OUTLAY = 42$
Although my buckets don't look so clean, they are sanitized on the inside.
In the taller bucket cut a hole near the top just large enough to accomodate your plug
leading to the power head.
Then drill some drain holes in the bottom of the shorter bucket
the center hole being just large enough to accomodate your tubing from the powerhead outlet
now place ONE bubble ring and the powerhead in the taller bucket
and run your tubing from the powerhead through the shorter bucket
I switched the tubing to a more flexible black tubing, but this photo is accurate.
Now, slide the shorter bucket inside the taller bucket
and allow the tubing to extend up and through the lid.
slide the second bubble ring over the tubing
you'll need another hole in the shorter bucket to accomodate the air tube.
Design the lid however you like.
Im using 3 small pots.
I put in a T to dispurse the fluid around the lid and it will fall back through the net pots
trickling down the roots.
Add your lights
Im using a 400 w HPS
my air pump and a circulation fan with all wires
leading out of a hole in the bottom
I keep the nutrient levels about an inch or two higher than the upper air stone
I use grow pellets to help dispurse the nutrients which pump for around 30 minutes every 2 hours.
the upper air stone provides a mist inside the second bucket.
