...then i will dump it in a corner of the chip pile...
I was thinking that initially too...but if the contaminates are winning, that's probably not a good idea. :dunno:

pick them and set on big pile.

In my experience once it is contaminated the mold will win every time. I have never once seen mycellium survive once contamination sets in. I am not saying it couldn’t happen but I have never seen it happen. Don’t put that contamination anywhere near any medium you want to use. Remember mold sends out spores and spreads via airborne means….

my try at outdoor mushrooms

well did a lot of reading a lot of thinking and reading more.
one of the problems is this kind likes low temps 40-50º to spawn.
so my 1st bag try is now in the fridge for a week or two, then will
look. but i think it is a no go. will give it it's own little chip pile
near back gate. well away from the big pile. reading about wood
liking mushrooms. then reading about spawn bags. then looking
at some for sale and what was in the bags. turns out they are
rye berries on the bottom of bag with hardwood sawdust on top.
read some more then googled what is a rye berry. after reading
and looking at photo's a rye berry is the rye seed. i thought damn
your kidding me. i have a 40 LB bag of winter rye seed i use for
cover crop. so i have rye berry seed and hard wood chips i can
make a real bag. i have every thing but the spores. friend that
gave me the agar plates said he thinks he can get me some
spore prints. so might be trying again if i get spores.

Spores are pretty cheap and legal so easy to get. There are tons of places online you can order from. I wouldn’t go with prints, syringes will give you a much larger colony and take a lot less time to colonize. I have spore prints here but they are getting old so wouldn’t want to send you something that may not work. I can order some and send to you if you want.

Here are just a few examples you can order from:

Have you thought of switching to saw dust instead of chips?...would be a lot more surface area that way. :dunno:

my try at outdoor mushrooms

thank you old joints.

had trim jail a few hours today.
i am a thinker always thinking sucks in a way.
so before i trim i think of a topic to think about.

todays topic was easy. think about mushrooms.
lets see. oldjoints i will buy if i have to. but friend
has offered spore prints in a baggie. he said to just
put some distilled water in there. then can make my
own syringes with it. will see if he follows thru if not
i will buy. bob your right about sawdust. would take faster.
thinking about where to get some hardwood sawdust.
then it came to me. i bought a bag of hickory pellets.
thinking i would use them in my smoker. when i got home
i read the bag. is hickory and alder. i do not like alder smoke.
so the bag is still setting there. i have a pellet stove for heat.
if the pellets get wet they turn into * sawdust* and small wood
bits. so i have the rye berrys "seeds" and i have a bag of
hardwood pellets. got a vac sealer and the heavy bags.
i have several pressure cookers. think i can make my own
bag or bags. a gauze pad taped over a hole for the air.
then a dab of high temp silicone glue to inject thru.
update while typing this. i got a phone call my friend
said he is getting some spores sent to him in a week or so..
said 4-5 people responded so might be getting a few.
he is also sending me a needle and syringe i can pressure cook.
well somehow i will get this pile dosed up.
