pakistani landrace genetics

Post by dill786 »

I have an opportunity to travel to Pakistan for work, not really sure how long could be 3 months or more..

the areas were the marijuana grows wild usually you would need a NOC
type of legal certificate issued by any agency, organisation, institute or, in certain cases, an individual. It does not object to the covenants of the certificate"
from the government because its dangerous for foreigners to travel up here with out a police escort. police is the last thing you want when you are hunting for strains !!!

when i use to watch " strainhunter" tv and seem them roaming around in congo and other African countries i noticed they have never been to Pakistan they been gathering and collecting seeds from India which is just across the border but none of them have ever been to Pakistan or Kashmir probably because its difficult to obtain the NOC or they are just shit scared in general in being kidnapped.

isnt central asia were cannabis first grew, places like uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, India etc... so arnt these the best places to look for land strains in the whole world???

lets just say i could this with a few Pakistani friends i have known from my university days in UK i kept in touch with them over the years even before facebook was invented,

ive been chatting to them and the NOC certificate will be sorted out and i wont have any issues. i will have the use of a 4x4 jeep and a driver who has driven all over the valleys in the northern areas and gilgit baltistan.

i have been growing indoors and outdoors for over 15 years now, but i have no clue what the fuck makes up a landrace.

if you were in my position and say the NOC and the transport plus safety was all sorted out how would you go about looking for land-strains ??

is it guess work, you bring the seeds back to your country and grow them out and see what happens???

how do you choose which seeds in a field to take if you come across flowering females in a field in the middle of a valley ?

or you sample the bud and if it gets you high and you like the taste you grab the seeds?

how do you tell if you come across a field of landstrains ? will they kinda all look the same due to them being pollinated by the same strain over a period of time?

thanks !!!

Just because a strain is a landrace doesn’t mean it’s high in thc. A landrace is a very stable strain and all the plants will be very similar. The reason is that they have acclimated themselves to that particular environment. Once removed from that environment the strain will now adapt to its new environment. I personally have had some success stories and some real failures with landraces.
As far as “taking” anything I would be very careful and respect the landowners or those that may have an interest in the plants. The law isn’t your only worry.
But if you have an opportunity to sample the finished product and can secure seed you at least would have something unique.
Not sure if any of this helped or not but good luck and be careful.

I think if you just ask them they will know exactly what you are talking about.

honestly they wouldnt,

they dont have that sort of cannabis culture like we do in europe and the americas, they dont have a clue about cannabis in pakistan even the botanists dont care for it, yeah they smoke it, they just use generic name
" charas" they are not connoisseurs they dont know the value of cannabis seeds, if you were to tell them that cannabis seeds from lets just say chitral costs £100 for 10 seeds, they would be fucking hysterical and wouldn't believe you, £100 is 16,000PKR ,

the valleys are a treasure trove,

i think smoking the buds would be your best test.
if you find one you like buy more. then collect your seeds
from them. be careful while there.

breeders use landrace strains to pollinate with there own to create a good strain and potentially find a strain which can generate revenue if its done in say california or other american states????

is this how it works ???

these guys from strain hunters i noticed that they just take the seeds and pay some local guides a few dollars, yet they can potentially make millions through strains which they find in the wild with espically the ones with high THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin)levels

seems to be no rules to this you can just walk into a country and just take the seeds which could generate millions in the long run....

I haven’t messed with landraces in a while. I was sent some in the late 90’s when in a private breeders club and before that gathered a few back in the 70’s when in the navy. The understanding back then was using landraces for vigor and whatever that particular strain had to offer in other ways.
Today with cbd and other elements being focused on the game has changed as we didn’t have the lab equipment they do today to isolate.
Finding a landrace these days would be difficult at best.
In Jamaica I had to talk to the growers and bought some weed from them which already had seed in them. In other parts of the world I got them via other military people stationed in that country.
I wouldn’t have a clue to what it would take these days to find a landrace not yet discovered.

I think it's more useful to think in terms of local farmers' cultivars than landraces. I've never met a farmer who wasn't very much interested in the genetics of the seed they use, even if the customers aren't particularly interested. There appears to be a fair amount of native, wild cannabis in Pakistan, but surely the farmers have done some sort of selective breeding of their individual seed lines.

One for the crow

One to rot

and one to grow

I think this is a much better description of what one is more likely to find. I know everything I have found is technically not a landrace as I know someone had selectively bred it.
