They should do fine, if the soil's too cold when you put them out they just sit there and get eaten or stunt. Not sure where you are in the UK dill but reports from London I've heard as far as the Spring weather have been pretty crap. I love when you put them out early though and they thrive and get giant, can't always do that in the yard though.

Leafhoppers or aphids probably. Once the plants are a couple feet tall and growing fast the plant can, in my experience, easily outgrow any damage they do. Having young, slow growing or small plants in midsummer when the pest populations are peaking is somewhat fraught.

id say plant some garlic (in their own pots) around the plants

outdoors it aint about chemicals, pesticides and such unnatural stuff, its about surrounding terpen balance, the more the air is saturated with all possible terpens the better the defense through insects

thats why all mono cultures are designed to fail

where does a mono culture start, with 1 sqare meter, with 10, with 100 .... well it depends ... like in your case, you have some "animals" that like your leafs, push them out with garlic from your plot

btw im really envy for not havin the chance to grow in my own garden, which i dont even posses here :(

cant wait for more pics
awoken the right way
