Still haven't fed er yet.. Probably another week until I will fill up the res for the first time.

Did you know; massive variety of sunflower have the ability to grow a taproot nearly 4 feet downward?

Found some holes but... Not trippin on any pests :smoke:

Fed her this mornin'. I let her dry up a bit too much before soakin' the res again you can see some curls..
Anyways, She's eye level now.. can't see the top;

The holes are from birds landing on it eating lil' leaf hoppers and other bugs.

Their beaks and feet leave lil holes ~

Thank u my bro ~

I didn't transplant this one real good or early so I think we may not get as much vertical as I was shooting for.. Oh well, maybe next time.

I pay too much attention to the leaves.. I love me some big leaves, it's like my thing..
But pest also like big leaves too! I'm glad for the birds and also been having these ladybugs come about recently. Really nice paint jobs on their shells ~

That's getting to be a lot of plant for the pot it's in but that's the goal, correct?

I agree ~

Yes correct good sir that is the goal. Last year was my biggest at 18' at 16" head in a container 1/3 this size. These are seed from that head. Also that container last year was not sub-irrigated ...

So I tripled it up and added some good ole' canna-innovation ~ now hopeful for a big dawg again

The sunflower has the ability to cast taproot nearly 4' downward in healthy soil.

So this is why I attempt to skew the taproot with the chunky perlite base, to act as an air pruner while also feeding the lateral roots (I am hoping it made). But if you notice in my transplanting post the roots were already circling that smaller pot which is not what I wanted to see.. Rather few roots and the larger tap which would continue downward. Went ahead anyways and hopeing it shot to the base of the large bin..

From the looks of the growth it is working OK.. Not the best though.

This is what I do for mother plants, with perlite base, to avoid getting rootbound sans sub irrigation ~

Hope ur having a good weekend
