peyote from seed

Post by Lrus007 »

well i went and bought some peyote seeds.
10 of them were $15. they take many years
to grow so first photo is the seeds.

then i mixed
1/2 coarse sand 1/4 worm castings and 1/4 potting soil.
then filled little cup's with it and let set in tray of water
overnight photo 2.

then i placed 1 seed per cup was not
easy the seed is tiny. then i put plastic wrap on each
and held with a rubber band photo 3.
peyote covered.jpg
i read a lot about
planting / growing them. i guess that to start they like
it very humid. that is why there covered. as they start
you poke little holes into cover and slowly they will get
used to normal air. seeds can take from 2 weeks to a
year to sprout. so this will take a while. well enjoy
thanks for looking :tonka:

Yeah I knew someone who grew some from seed many years ago. They are slooooooowwww growing. There's no question of growing them to consume, they are just an interesting curiosity for geeky gardeners (and get attractive flowers if you're lucky).

Yep.

You can graft them to pretty much any "fast growing" cactus.

Plenty of info over at mycotopia.net, if you're interested.

A particulary good thread is:
