Easy Dudes.

My grow is in my loft. There is 50mm insulation between the rafters and it's boared out with foil backed plasterboard.

I have a partition wall with 50mm insulation boxing off my grow room.

I'm running two 600w hps bulbs, a small portable air conditioning unit taking fresh air from outside, with and extractor leading to a carbon filter outside the growm room but in side the loft.

The grow room is lined with white plasic.

Will an infrared camera be able to see anything?

from what I have heard and read, fleer cameras can see right thru the insulation...I recall seeing the amount needed as a foot thick hardboard foam to diffuse the footprint of the heat source...they are getting smarter and are using better technology that years gone bye...we must do the same

but you should look into the legalities of it...
last i heard, it was no longer a big threat in the states,
as of several years ago when they stopped issuing search warrants based on that
but cool-tubes are the way to go, in case you haven't already.

Just because they can't a warrant off of those does that mean they aren't looking? You'd think they'd just use those things and than start looking for something they could get a warrant on.

its not so much that their seeing through the insulation... its that they can detect such small degree changes in things... that objects behind even insulation can leave telltales on the exterior IF that object radiates heat differently than the rest of that interior space...

ie, you can overinsulate an attic grow and create a spot visible from the outside simple because its different, cold ... such as the side of your uninsulated house, were you remodeled a bathroom and insulated that small section of exterior wall...

the manufactures used to have pages and pages of images on their sites that they use to advertise their utility...
go look as those pictures and you will get a much better idea whats going on...

wow,
that author really is a pig...

This makes the system very effective for police because most of the bad guys are constructing their clandestine operations based on myth, rumor, and plain ignorance. The general public gets very confused about the technology. They are busy constructing all kinds of copper framed, pyramid structure, lead lined kryptonite enclosures thinking that they can defeat the IR technology. In truth much of what they do makes the IR system work better!
You cannot see through walls into peoples homes or vehicles but you can gather alot of information about what is going on behind a wall based on the pattern that radiates out through the wall or roof.

I think the correct idea would be to keep the lamps as cool as the room,,, errrr,,,, defuse the heat at the source in this case being your hps lamps,,, yes keep the room cool but keep the lamps as close to room temp. as u can,,,

I'd say hook up a nice 8 inch fan to remove the heat from the source and replace the heat with room temp air?

Errrrrr,,, maybe that didnt make any CENTS?

all houses have "hot spots" (areas where heat gathers and would be visible with this technology). the idea is to diffuse the heat so that under inspection, your house does not look like it contains 1 or 2 rooms which are visibly and uniformly heated to a higher temp than the rest of the house. diffusing heat to a colder part of the house ,preferably in the lower center is a good idea, if thats not feasible there are other ways. if you live in an area like north america, most all houses lose a fair amount of heat through their roof and attic. if you vented into the attic and diffused that heat sufficiently it would appear on infra red to be similar to other homes just less efficient. or you could vent into an unused chimney. for a recreational grower that owns his property overcoming infra red should be fairly easy.

Or just fill the entire house with 1k's and drop the A/C temps to 60deg,,, so it appears to have the heat on
