Seeking Opinions Regarding Grow Bags IN 2gal Ebb&Gro Buckets

Post by WhiteHotAfterburner »

Hello everyone!

I wanted to credit the person on OG that reminded me that I must be careful of the roots clogging the Ebb&Gro Fill/Drain hole. I looked and couldn't find it.

**IF I determine who it was that reminded me I will edit it in, or IF they speak up and remind me. I insist on giving credit where it is due.**

I have been thinking about this eventuality ever since it was mentioned.

I have already arranged help when the roots have to be trimmed back.

Modern Grow Bags didn't exist when I last grew. There were some outdoor type bags but nothing like what is in use today. And certainly not for use in Hydro systems.

I am contemplating buying grow bags to put my inner buckets in to control the roots negating the need to physically trim them by hand with an assistant.

IS that possible?

Will a 2 gallon Ebb&Gro bucket fit INSIDE a 2 gallon grow bag and then fit inside the outer bucket?

Will a 3 gallon grow bag work as above ^ ^ ^?

Make it a great week!

To clarify the question:

Can I put this...

2 Gallon Ebb&Gro Inner Bucket 0002 04052021.jpg
In this...
2 Gallon Grow Bag 0001 040252021.jpg
In this...
2 Gallon Ebb&Gro Outer Bucket 0001 04052021.jpg
(btw, I’ve been trying to load these images since soon after the original post! :frown: (Your Phone app to PC :frown: ))

As long as ur medium wicks well or just as 2 wicks per pot for insurance/even coverage .i would make sure it wasn't a really tight fit though. ijs

i think youd want to drill far larger drain holes...

What do other people do who grow your style..?

Would the black cloth allow salt build ups or maybe algae...?

I would just figure out how to trim unassisted if possible.

Yes. The came to me pre-made. It looks like someone used an Awl to create the dimpled holes. Since they look to be all made with the same hole pattern, I surmise they made a plate sort of punch with multiple Awls embedded in the plate to create the dimpled holes in one go.

The other odd-ball 2 gallon buckets have clean (probably molded) holes in them without the dimples.

This was only a transitional situation. I had the plants in 2 gallon buckets and was putting them in 5 gallon buckets instead.

And, I was asking to see what other folks were doing - that is IF they had ever encountered a like situation.

I was really concerned about controlling the roots and preventing them from clogging the Fill/Drain lines.

Knock on wood That doesn't seem to have happened - yet :dunno: :winky:

About salt buildup? I don't know.

Yes, I did come up with a "unassisted" Tripod Trimmer. The concept was good. They prototype construction was less than! :winky:

But, when I used it I noticed the device would not work in a space with limited headroom, as I have. I had to lift the plants in to an opening in the ceiling just to get them in an out of the contraption! :roflmao: IF I ever need a similar device in the future I have formulated some improvements.

I hope you and yours are well and fine, roots!
