regarding the wee ones

my best effords and results were when i transplanted such "loosers" into pure perlite

from soil or coco , washed away all the dirt from the roots, prepared the perlite, nice wet and with a touch of nutez, and then transplanting them ...

no shit, within 2 days there was improvement and they caought up like the rest ... i mean you are on pure hydro anyways, so you dont have to fiddle around ec and ph , give em the same thing as the rest

pure perlite is my dearest thing, and you can reuse it to death, awesome cation exchange capacity and when you dont overdo it, for example give em only every 2 days nutes, they will make those very fine fiber like roots, not those spaghetti roots like in dwc, those are anyways contra productive, you want thoos thinest roots ;)

Hey there, Deran!

Actually, the Wee Ones are currently in last years Garden dirt, somewhat amended.

I have a nearly full bag of Perlite still. I will it a shot on at least one of them - see how they do side-by-side. One straight Perlite, the other with a Soilless mix. I just picked up 2 of what I believe are larger containers.

Thank you, my friend!

WHAB's To Town & Back and, To Town & Back AGAIN! :-D

Post by WhiteHotAfterburner »

I did make it to town today.

I got the Stainless Steel hardware I needed for the Cloning Machine II. However, I had to back track about 1-1/2 miles. I nearly forgot the hardware, again! :roflmao: I nearly drove out of town without them, again! :roflmao:

I got 2 containers for the Wee Ones. I mixed up the soilless mix I made for uppotting the new arrivals. On Deran's recommendation, I'm going to transplant one of the Wee Ones to straight Perlite, and the other to the soilless mix.

I did not make it back to the schoolhouse in time to get Lights Out group photo - next chance I get I will.

That was torturous, for me and the plant :frown:

This pot doesn't have holes in the bottom. I thought soaking it first would just make a big mess. A big mess was unavoidable, it turns out. The roots were hanging on pretty good. I used the spade to run down the sides of the pot to try and release the entire root ball. It didn't work out that way. When I thought I had it loose I tipped the pot over thinking it would come free. It didn't. I had to work the spade under it again when the plant and its roots were mostly uncovered.

I pre-prepared some Clonex Clone and Seedling Nutrient to give it a chance at surviving - hoping to give it a chance at surviving. I gave this one a 1/2 gallon solution.

Now the all Perlite transplant! :cantlook:

I did soak this one through. Although, it still seemed to have a firm grip on the bottom of the pot, it did come up a little easier.

I don't think I'm going to like this method, though. It just seems weak in my opinion. The solution I prepared for them just ran right through it. I did expect that. Which means it's going to need more attention than the others regarding feedings. I don't like the idea of that.

As an afterthought, I should have traded places with these two plants. This one was growing a little better than the other.

I'll be surprised if either of them survive. I'll be more surprised if this second one, the Blueberry (Dutch Passion) survives.

On a side note: I realize now that had I reversed the bend in the jewelry (labels :winky:) I adorned them with I could use it to catch the stream of water I am applying to them thereby preventing the stream from digging a hole in the soilless mix. I have been using whatever was handy to perform that task to date.

Next time!
